My wife BB9300 is on prepaid via Vodacom and will be traveling to India. I am on MTN contract. No phone calls will be made, but will BBM be operational and at no cost as per local country. Thanks.

No. she will be charged international Out of Bundle rates if she can get it working.

A better option would be not to have her internet on roaming. she should rather connect via her hotel's wifi and use BBM that way.

What I found worked well was to buy a local prepaid SIM and then pay for BIS.
Do some research for Indian carriers and you might be able to have a free SIM card sent to your address, that's the case with Vodafone in the UK.
It's cheaper, much cheaper

This normally works best.

Your info is half rite, if their is a vodafone network in India then you will not be billed any additional charges provided a) your roaming is on, and b) you force the phone to the vodafone network while it is there.
As vodafone owns 60% of vodacom we are granted base usage access on their network without the international penalties, one of these is STANDARD BIS usage, things like downloading or streaming will be charged at the international R120 per mb rate.

When I travel, I buy a local prepaid SIM and add credit for the BIS in that country IE BIS in the UK (Vodafone) is £5 for 30 days and volia you have data and BBM :)
