Hey i downloaded this torrent its amazingly tiny(couple kb's) and then amazingly huge when unzipped(4gigs).Im thinking its a virus cos the setup does nothin but when i scan it my antivirus finds nothing and it updated daily so that can't b the problem.anyone thats downloaded this file and has any comments on how to use it please post.thanks

uhm... That sounds like a mini ISO, not that I'd know anything about that, seeing as it's uhm... ILLEGAL :o

mini ISO's aren't illegal...

What that sounds like is a repeated data pattern in the files, which allows the compression algorithm to achieve VERY good results..

Its a useless file, and has probably infected your machine with something.

It never ceases to amaze me why people download such things. No compression system in the world is so good to squeeze files like that.

Malware authors are smiling all the way to the bank though.

Antivirus softs won't pick up 0 day trojan horses.

When running dodgy softs eg academic keygens one should run them in a virtual box ;).

was Js curious to see if it is possible to hav such a highly compressed package and besides im not stupid i tested it on my spare pc with no internet access i call it my virus testing pc all downloaded content gets tested on this pc before being used on my main pc.

a couple kb's extracted to 4gb? LOL

whats so funny about this.At the rate that technology is improving this might not be as impossible as you think i mean honestly a few years back you also woulda laughed at the idea of a TB hdd but now we'v reached the point of the 2TB hdd....

Tejen : There is no way you're going to get a lossless compression algorithm to take 4gb down to a couple of kb... its just NOT possible.. no matter what the technology does... you can't represent 4gbs of data in a couple of kb....

and your example of the TB hdd is disingenuous at best.. thats a method for storing information, which can be miniaturised... but the TB doesn't do any "compression" of the data its storing.

haha ok ok you guys win i got suckered. Its just not possible.happy now?Lol

Pretty much....

Granted you would have had to understand how compression algorithms work on a basic level not to have gotten suckered but still.

A bit of logic needed to be applied.. if something that is 4gb can be compressed down to a couple of kb's... then why don't MS do it themselves?

Well you need to find out what it is, what is it you downloaded?

May just need a program to get your free items :p

I would advise getting a serious antivirus and staying well away from anything remotely technical in future.
