I quote my complaint to Steven Moore of bc games and his reply.
Look at the how he construct his sentences. It explains everything.
They will take your money but you must resolve the issues with somebody else.
The stupid game didn't install. Give me another one. How difficult is it?
Thieves.:mad::mad:

My e-mail:

Steven,

Two days ago I bought a game, Brother at Arms, at R300.00 from your outlet in Woodlands.
Arriving home I tried to install it.
Before it installed it ask if I want to upgrade or not.
I said yes.
After a download of 1.5G (R360.00 at Vodacom) at my attempt to install the game it just started to install and then said "Corrupt File".
So, after spending R660.00 I still have nothing.
I went back to the shop.
I asked them to swop the game out.
Why have they sold me a disk and then I still have to download the complete game?
Why didn't they tell me all the facts? If I knew the facts I would never have bought the game.
By the way: If you say "no" at the prompt it doesn't install.
Your assistant said she cannot swop the game.
Somebody at EA wants an error code before he can authorise the swop. This means I will have to re-download the entire file to get an error code.
Your assistant only answer to all my appeals were to consistently say: "You see the story is you must give me an error code".
She must have said that at least 12 times.
I have nothing to do with EA or any other entity but bc games.

Now I appeal on your sanity. Swop the stupid game.

I am not happy with the product, your shop, personnel or service.

Please let us resolve this issue today.

Regards,

xxxxxxxx

His useless, pasing the buck, keeping the money, reply:

Hi xxxxxx

Unfortunately with PC games the customer needs to call EA for assistance. This is to prevent piracy and as you are well aware PC games are a very high target to piracy. If EA gives you a number then we will gladly exchange the game for you.
My staff at the store are 100% correct in the what they told you and the number for EA is 0860324357.

how exactly is a shop fail for a game downloading ?

should i now go and burn down take2 because my fallout vegas had to download updates ? or for the same reason that empire total war had updates ?

Ja sorry dude, I feel for you... but they have policies, EA has policies on these things, and you have to stick to it. You aren't special.

No.

The update is 1.5 gigs. Then it didn't install the upgrade.

My beef is:

I am R660.00 out of pocket for absolutely nothing

It not their fault if the game needs an update, get an uncapped connection, anyway, i used to buy 360/ps3 games by bt but i seldom do anymore unless its a really good deal, the staff at the Claremont store are rude and ill informed to boot, no sense of proper customer service ... from their attitude its as if they think they are doing the customer a favour. i have seen customers stand for 5 minutes waiting to be helped while the guys behind the counter finish a meaningless conversation.

But how is this BT(?) problem?.....I understand your frustration, but if they give you another copy you will still have to download the patch.

Is this Brothers in Arms for PC - paying R330 for the PC version is steep as it is on budget everywhere for less than R100.

get more stable connection. seriously i don't see myself committing public dramatics over left for dead 2's 3.5 gig update (
the sacrifice), do i :erm:

Look at how he construct(s) his sentences. Thats the first thing, secondly its Brothers IN Arms.

I've never had a problem with BT Games not BC Games.

Any chance this is a PEBKAC error?

Sorry man, but it simply is not bt games fault or problem at all. Most games have to be updated when they are first installed, and sometimes the updates don't download and install properly. Have you even tried uninstalling it, disconnecting your internet connection and reinstaliing the game? If no internet connection is active, the game will not request an update. If the game runs without updates, then there is nothing wrong with it. Also, try going to a friend to try re-download the patch, it might work a second time.

I don't know of any game stores that exchanges PC games these days - unless there's physical damage to the disk, but they look for things like that when they sell it. Which is understandable considering how easy it is to copy a game. If you want to be angry at someone, be angry at Vodacom for charging that amount for your data usage.

So give them an error code. Error 36 or something. Act all stupid. EA Will probably exchange it then. BT Games is not in the wrong here.

Your beef is with vodacom. Theres nothing wrong with your game that same game sold millions and everyone got the disc that you now have.
Your internet sucks how is that BT or EA's problem?

Yea, dunno, online games that forces you to update, that's not the retailer's problem. If you buy World of Warcraft [vanilla version] now, it will download like 10GBs of updates before you can play. If your connection fails, or something goes corrupt then it's tough luck, still not retailers problem.

This is why you see constant threads on here saying "need patched client of [game] in Cape Town/Jhb/PTA" . Almost all the latest games need some form of online connectivity and will attempt to update or download files. I mean Assassin's Creed II requires you to be online while you play, the moment your connection drops you can't save or play further.

That's why i've decided to get a good ISP with lots of cheap bandwidth to do all these things without constantly feeling i'm now paying "extra" for the game, in the end, i now end up buying the game digitally from the start and mostly it's updated already.

That said:

Usually the retail box will state on the box something in the lines of "Requires Internet Connection to Play" , if it's not there , you might have a case with BT Games [as in you can tell them "i don't have internet, and this game doesn't work without internet and nowhere does it state i need internet" . If it IS there [and most games have it nowadays] then you're at the mercy of the game publisher [EA/Activision/Blizzard etc etc] .

If I say no to the update the program doesn't install.

@Getafix: You should have checked the packaging to see if it required internet. Its the norm nowdays - get a PS2 console if you have a problem.

@OP

Dont worry dude, lack of a product full disclosure (including updates etc and internet connection required) on the retailers part will be a thing of the past when the new consumer protection action is enforced.

They will have to disclose that in order to play the game you will need to have an internet connection to download updates and that updates may exceed x gigs and some other stuff etc

there's more to this new consumer protection act than people realize, good news for consumers, bad news for the retailers.

retailers will no longer be able to hide and not take responsibility, I am not saying this is right, but its a step in the right direction. Perhaps BTGames couldve offered an olive branch and offered to assist in updating, not just sell a product and say you on you own china...that is where they will fail soon.....mwhahahahahah!

I know i am going to get slammed for this post, but I think the retailer should've offered the dude more help than just fobbing him off to EA or whoever.

PS: Get a real internet connection, you noob!
