Be careful when filling up

I skipped right to the end without reading in between, but does in SA an industry body such as SABS (or someone else) actually calibrate and verify the fuel-pumps. Overseas I know that automobile organisations (similar to AA here) are allowed to independently verify calibration. I did hear that a fuel-pump needs to dispense at least 2L to be accurate and it dispenses in ML.

Of course. It's extremely regulated. Strict safety regulations too. All fuel pumps must have SABS certification.
 
Damn. This is frightening news. I'm going to only use my bicycle from now on.
 
Just do the smart thing and use a fixed amount you know is close to full.

I filled up with 32.36 Litres. At R13.79 per litre
Any reasonable calculation gets: R446.2444
Engen calculates this at R446.25

Granted this is 1 cent and shouldn't make a difference, but it's a) the principle and b) do that to enough people everyday and you get an extra profit for nothing (after already paying employees nothing for long hours)...

There was another instance of 2 cents and 4 cents (so the amounts do vary)...

Next time you fill up / put petrol in, try the calculation, maybe it won't work out either...

This is just so that people are aware. Whether you heed my advise or not, is up to you...

I always fill up for 200 bucks and never experienced rounding issues like OP. Also don't understand why people complain about petrol price, as I have paid the same for years when filling up.

That only works for cars that do 100km/hr when they are going at 100km/hr. Cars that do 120km/hr at that speed ( 100 ) cost R240 to fill up for R200.
 
Whenever I see a headline like that in SA, I expect a real crime issue. It's just a rounding issue.

Shh you are spoiling the degree of analness. Let us hear OP how this is effecting your physical well being. Would you like to march against Engen? Please let us know. The MyBB community is behind you to take on Engen, if we do the math then we should expect a refund once this goes to the consitutional court.

R3 650 000 / 146,380 = 24.93510042355513 (Rounded DOWN to R24.93). The remainder in rounding then becomes R746.60, which I think we should give the OP for bringing this topic up. I am going to make a new thread about what each member will be doing with their R24.93.

Jokes aside, I consider myself reasonable, and all of these amounts will eventually add up...

As I've said before - Everyone thinks it's 1c and it is, but this adds up...

A new question
Has anyone ever had the case where you ask for a round amount (like R200) and they see you are using a card, so they fill up with R200 and some cents and charge this to your card?

I know people are gonna have a go, but at the end of the day, the amount is not what I asked for. Not as big a deal for me (as I am getting what I am paying for, but not what I asked for).

If I pay with a card and asked for R200, even if it ends up being R200.05, they only charge R200.
