Is it possible for a sole proprietor to become a reseller of PC hardware etc? If so how do i register at like rectron or esquire?
 
Check the websites they have the dealer applications and the requirements. You would only be able to be a COD client
 
I don't really think so hey... A Sole Proprietor can also be seen as an enterprise... there are specific requirements but its possible.
 
Check some suppliers require you to do a minimum order Rand limit like axiz requires you to purchase at least R10000 for 6 consecutive months
 
A Sole prop is no longer a valid company type.

Easiest is to register a PTY.

Once you have that you can register accounts with Axiz, Rectron, Frontosa etc.
I very much doubt they would not give you an account because of your company status, it's like throwing money down the drain.

I know that Axiz has a cash account (Oops...did i say that ;)

Try, and see what they say, most suppliers have Registration forms on their websites.
 
I've just been through that process. I'm registered with several IT distributors in Cape Town. It is possible to register with Sole Proprietor status. You don't need to be VAT registered (in fact, they won't register you even if on a voluntary basis unless you have an existing transaction history that exceeds x amount of turnover). However, you will need to motivate the reason for your application to some distributors like Rectron (Will need to double check that, don't quote me) and Sahara etc, You will even need to furnish evidence in the form of invoicing for services rendered in your capacity as an IT vendor, thats only with one of them.

The only one I couldn't register with was Sonic Informed, they simply refused to grant a COD account in the absence of other other accounts (I suspect that one must have existing accounts on terms with other distributors)

Question is; what do you want to use it for? If you are under the impression that you are gonna be saving hundreds or even thousands, you wont, the margins are miniscule. It will cost you more in trying to get it done, but you don't have to take my word for it if you don't want to.
 
If you can get one supplier to give you an account then yes maybe the rest will follow but you must offer up good business. At the moment there are so many suppliers and some online stores are cheaper they are selling to anyone.

Look at esquire and pcint for instance sell to the public so the rest are losing out. Tell them you will be forced to use esquire or pcint. App will done chop chop :D

Do you have any idea how competitive this market is - it cannot get any more competitive :D I have customers who have accounts at suppliers but buy from me because its easier and the 5-10% they save is not worth the drive to Midrand....

Thats very true.. The mark up is usually worth the effort and time to drive there and collect the goods. Especially when you deliver then it's worth it :D
Obviously on large orders one is able to save more so the drive is justified, but on 1 or 2 items of lower cost then the save is minimal.
