Wow, my uncle dropped out of school and he's a millionaire. Woop dee doo. The fact of the matter is varsities don't want idiots studying technically challenging degrees when they can't even do functional maths. I never said you are doing maths lit I just explained how brain dead you have to be to be taking it. And yes, I have actually seen the math lit test papers lately and "which stage on this load shedding diagram would you rather be in during x month so that you have the least amount of power outages" on matric level is not what I would call advanced - that's grade 3 level work right there.

My point I was trying to make irrespective of the money coupled with success is the level of intelligence.

I Highly disagree that math lit should be the sole factor on which you judge the mental capacity of a person.

Apologies for coming across aggressive but it stems from this whole topic. People do monumentally sub par subjects and then wonder why they can't do stuff like become a rocket scientist. I chalk this up partly to the instant gratification culture we foster nowadays where everyone is told they can be what they want to be without doing any of the work - look at our president.

What makes me more angry is that no one sat down and asked this kid what he wants to do and what subjects he needs to achieve it. Either way though if he had to drop to math lit then I guess he didn't have a chance in the first place. Perhaps I'm wrong and he was just lazy and this is karma.

My point is that people who do math lit and then want to go to varsity to do a degree in a scientific subject are fooling themselves. Yes people aren't border line retarded (well not all) if they do math lit but if you see the coursework then you need to ask why people bother in the first place? Why not do something else because if you do math lit you're wasting your time and everyone elses.
