You do realise that just ober 46 years ago many of our ancestors and cousins had their entire country leveled by bombs and their cities virtually destroyed? Do they still blame the Germans? No. In fact, Germany is one of the UK's biggest trading partners.

Thats why Europe is so successful! Forget the past, forgive the transgressions and work TOGETHER to build a successful continent (or country). Don't sideline anyone and ensure you have one of the most successful continents (countries) in the world!

South Africa is too short sighted to realise if we built this nation as one, without pushing "sins of the father" and looking for revenge we could be the most successful place in the world! Forget BEE, forget AA - legislation could never replace the need for everyone to co-operate for a better and bigger nation!

Unfortunately a lot of white okes do not have the same outlook on life, they grew up during the Apartheid Era, therefore still see an African man as they did then, so till that has changed, EE will have its own place.

That is the real workplace life.

But surely there must be better opportunities out there for you ... I would not put up with their rubbish if say the tables were turned and it was a black employer not promoting me because I'm white ... I would take my skills to another company and help them achieve. (I just reversed the example to say if it happened to me).

I wouldn't call it giving in, I would call it getting a better job ... but if you're as stubborn as I am ... you'll just stay and fight.

Lucky for me I'm going into an industry that, although it requires BEE ration, allows us all to get to the top and get jobs and achieve because there are just not enough of us out there. Thats correct ... I'm referring to bean counters ... My auditing lecturer is 1 of (I think) 1000 or 2000 black CA's amongst 30,000 ... but he is an awesome guy ... funny as hell, extremely arrogant and cocky ... and a great lecturer. If any of you are at UJ ... I am referring to Lyndsay Maseko ... I love that guy ...

Leaving my company would mean, getting a better job? Unfortunately, am in the IT world, so your skill and proficiency is what puts food on the table. The IT world is the most segregated area, for lack of a better word. If I leave, they will have an excuse not to employ/promote any person of color.

I am sitting in a position whereby, I will not be promoted willingly by my white boss to a level where all the "white boys" are, even with my eight years of experience.

I have the skills to do the job, but have got to prove myself, over and over again, and still be told "not competent enough" to deserve that. I admittedly, am more skilled that some of my peers in the higher grades, but just cannot be recognized as such.

The only saving grace for the African man in my situation, is enforcing EE and the Skills Development Act. Force the white superiors to develop the skills required to do the job, and appoint Africans in the those position.

We are busy working on the WSP and EE at the same time, to address the inequalities and to ensure that the suitable people are appointed in the posts.

Oh cry me a river. I have experienced that and worse and I am white. There is a lot of that kind of excrement happening in this field. The only solution is to leave and get a better job. Took me quite a few job hops but I eventually found a good place for myself.

I happen to know white programmers that have never been promoted and all their bonuses go to the asskissers on the team (even though they do no work). But for some reason, like you, they refused to job hop. Only now, have some decided to follow in my footsteps and those are doing well. The remainder, like you, suffer for their stupidity.

OK seriously, I hear so many people (of all colours) bitch and moan all the time about how crappy their jobs are and how unfair it all is and how their bosses are incompetent and they're so much better bla bla ... know what I'd like to see from these people: An entrepreneurial spirit. You think it's badly run, get together with likeminded people, get stuck in there and start your own competing businesses that don't "oppress" the workers, or go out and independently contract your skills.

You know what a poorly run company is? A GAP IN THE MARKET.

A company that under-utilizes in-house skills on the basis of race inherently and by definition is more poorly run than a potential competitor could theoretically be. If this is really happening on a broad scale, the market opportunities are massive.

I also hit "glass ceilings" at work partly because I didn't play 'office politics', but being white I couldn't say "oh it's because I'm black" and being male I couldn't say "oh it's because I'm a woman". So because I didn't have EXCUSES I just realised that making it in life is just hard no matter who you frikkin are and that people NEVER automatically realise what a genius you are even if you are a white male ... you gotta earn a reputation in this world ... so I just said stuff it and started my own business. Try it too. Then you gonna learn what REAL hard work is, ha ha. That was even harder. Trust me, being a white male is no magic ticket to anything, you are the dirt of the world until you've spent years proving yourself.

Or even, seriously, just change jobs - if your skills are any good at all YOU WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE finding a job. There are shortages of skilled workers just about everywhere in industry, and I guarantee, if you are any good, your skills will be recognised quickly. But you WILL need to change jobs to do it. If your current boss doesn't recognise your skills (for whatever reason) he/she never will, trust me, they only realise after you're gone.

How come the bosses of Eskom get to keep their jobs? How come the telecoms situation in this country is such a mess? How come people are dropping like flies with AIDS? How come little girls and boys are being raped as a "cure" for AIDS? Where is the LOVE?

Water quality, electricity, roads, rail, civil order, peace, trust; all things that are going down the drain as our government parties and hobnobs.

Just where are the positive points (and I don't mean the HIV status of our goverment)?

Could someone list all the points that show that this country has a future? Weather does not sustain a country so don't bother listing that. I am talking about socio-political and economic indicators.
