Hi there, Bryn. My son is interested in getting the OnePlus 5 64GB. Can I ask where is a legit place to buy it (and the great case you've got, since that's something you mentioned)? Takealot was supposed to be selling them (and I see they do sell the OnePlus 3) but they don't have them yet and can't tell me if/when they will. I'm not keen to put my credit card on the line with an unknown vendor... Will appreciate any recommendation. Thanks!

Not sure if they deliver, but have you tried the One Plus official site? Other places are normally Ali Express, Geek buying

I know it was aimed at Bryn, but I think this where they might have bought, or at least some bought via paypal

Thanks! OK, so then how does it work if you have a problem with the phone and it needs fixing under warranty? You have to send it back overseas or does OnePlus have some kind of SA agency? And how much do you get clobbered for customs duty on importing something like this?

I think the guys who purchased might help you better with that question. Oneplus don't have a repair center locally, so you go back overseas I assume. Customs not sure hey, best bet to check with Bryn or Sandman on that

I don't recommend Takealot. The previous OnePlus prices they've had were really bad.

I've only ever bought OnePlus devices from the official site. I'm not sure you'll be able to get the official protective cases elsewhere anyway, and they are critical imo.

If you don't have a family member who can help with transport, you can use a mail forwarding service like MyUS. The duties and VAT are pretty unpleasant though.

Owning a OnePlus device definitely has inherent risk. If you smash the screen it's a miserable and expensive process sending the device back to OnePlus.

That said, I used a OnePlus One for 3 years prior to getting my OnePlus 5 and it was immaculate the entire time. Just take great care with the phone.

They have no presence in SA and don't even support our country for orders, hence the need for a mail forwarding service.
