beginner fruit/veg garden

Not exactly a fruit or veg. Got me a couple of venus fly traps on Saturday. This morning I saw they already caught a couple of flies. 20181224_093127.jpeg

Signates, do they emit any sort of smell humans would detect? I am interested to know if they catch mosquitoes, so please keep us updated. If the answers are no and yes, maybe it would work in a bedroom?

No smell that I can detect. They should be able to catch mosquitos as well. I only got two pants and thinking of getting a few more for the bathroom and bedroom.

Edit

Just checked and they are not good at trapping mosquitos.

Ah, that's a pity! Spiders are good at catching mosquitoes, but I guess we can't use that as an excuse for shoddy housework.

Lovely, Kory. Our peppers are about the size of the end of my little finger, and there are lots of them on the 6 plants. How many weeks is it likely to take to get them to the size of yours? Another month?

It actually took a couple of weeks but that plant has only 2 peppers currently so that could be a factor. Other pepper plants have more on and seem to be taking time to get larger.

As you can see these ones are taking their time but quite a number of peppers on there.

I bought a punnet of 6 Caprice bush bean seedlings on 5 February and planted them in one of my biggish (about 1.6x0.4x0.4m) containers which had previously had cherry tomatoes. Not much soil prep other than more compost. We have been eating beans for a week already and they are producing beans as I look at them. I will definitely look for seeds of that variety next summer.

But you have the beans to use as seeds for next summer. Or am I missing something?

Yes, on the off chance we don't eat them all before I have a chance to keep some:). Also, are they not likely one of those hybrids that won't run true or whatever the term is? I wouldn't want to waste the growing time and water and then find they don't produce well. Does anyone know differently?

Where did you buy the seedlings?

While there are many seed types that will grow again heirloom seeds are best. They are not GMO. The fruit/veg do not all ripen at once. Heirloom seed plants will definately yield viable seeds.

This has been the biggest part of my project is to only grow heirloom seeds/plants.
It has been slow progress, but I'm getting there.
It's dark and raining now. Will take a few pics tomorrow and post them here.

Attached is the purple jalapeno. This was a few weeks ago. Will take another tomorrow before I spray my chilli/garlic mix on all the plants. It drives away most pests and also keep the birds at bay. DSC_7729.JPG
