I've tried looking last night to get a generic guide together for Cyanogenmod, but it seems impossible. There are no solid standard rooting methods, and one really needs to dive into XDA to find the most suitable and/or popular method to do it.

no, it does the rooting for you, used it on my Note 2

I think it is device dependent. just find your device section on XDA and you will get a thread to help.

Also it might not work straight off if you don't do a factory reset first, so make sure all data is backed up
