Behind the scenes at Afrihost's offices

I'm usually wary of companies with such extravagant offices. To me a lot of those are just nice to haves, but they have zero impact on the quality of work, but cost a lot of money.

The benefit might be diminished somewhat in SA, but in Silicon Valley most major tech firms have fancy offices. It's all part of making the staff more attached to the company and willing to work harder to ensure that they remain there and to justify the company's expenditure.

A close friend of my mom's has a big catering contract with Google for their Googleplex in California, and she said they treat their employees like kings in the buildings that she supplies. Incredibly expensive food and three meals a day being made available. She can only observe the other aspects of life at Google as she goes about her job, but she's said many times that it looks like an amazing place to work.

It didn't make them fix the network quicker.

Seems like a PR job for AH and Axxess after their dismal failure.
 
Nice offices and free food, more importantly what do they pay their staff and how many hours a day do they work?
Generally perks like free food are given to people on companies with ridiculous requirements.

According to openweb's T&C's, it's run out of the back of a lighting warehouse.

This surprises me - I thought it was run out of his mom's garage! Going up in the world!

Having worked in extravagant offices I can confirm that it's like getting a new car. It's great for the first month or two, then that shine wears off a bit.

That said, I miss working in a building that has good cappucino's, a physio, a gym, a dentist, a laundry, a game park, etc.:mad:

Human nature, one only appreciates things you lose. Now I work in a dump, but get paid more.

I have asked the same question the last 2 months: 'When are you (Afrihost) lowering your prices per package?'

Now I know why not. Telkom 20 Gb - R399. Vodacom 20 Gb - R299, both announced just last week.

I can only stay loyal - been with Afrihost for more than 5 years - for so long while paying R596 22.5 Gb!

Your mistake is waiting - never wait. Just go wherever it's best, and do it sooner rather than later. Nothing will create change faster than customers jumping ship.
