Tygervalley Chamber just had new fiber installed. Infact they have both Neotel and Vodacom infrastructures.

As for ISP, Cybersmart makes me nervous. My past history with them ( support, poor website , call centre etc ) hasn't being great. Did you look into Webafrica?

They have a list on their website, use that portal instead. It also tracks how many more people you need before they would roll out in your area. I would assume high update due to their 5Mbps offering lol.

On the page is numerous links to the sign up page it's just alot easier to share it to friends and family via the page and have something to look at most are to paranoid to open links.

Word of warning, make sure your ISP is not using Telkom

Some ISPs, only offer fibre through Telkom, others will use the open access networks.

make sure you use one of those.

Cybersmart and RSAweb are a good start, they both use DFA

contrary to what you would think, its the medium sized players who have the better offerings right now. The big players are just using Telkom mostly and we know Telkom.

Waiting on 123net

If you live in Bellville go like the Bellville fiber page please.

Good evening. Just letting you know that I have looked at the signups for the many suburbs in Belville to see what the numbers are like. So far we have signups from 33 different specific suburbs in Belville, and a few signups from Belville with no suburb specified. None of the suburbs have 10 or more signups yet, unfortunately (which is why none have made it onto our expansion plans page yet), but we will be looking into the feasibility of combining certain suburbs soon. :)

Haha, Im also in Upper Oakdale. Loevenstein, Selbourne and Welgedacht have Fibre available. While I was on 10mbps I was lucky to see any speed close to 5mbps. So getting new infrastructure would be great.

Yo

I live in the Oude Westhof area that is almost finished with installation as per telkoms website or map area: http://www.telkom.co.za/coverage/#Legend

Talked to the techies on site and they are busy with testing the backbone, said they will be handing over to telkom in a month. What can i expect of a area that has telkom infrastructure? Will i have options available or is telkom fibre the only way then just go with a different ISP?

I shall appreciate your input?

Peace

Ouch, seems like Bellville is close to doomed for FTTH.

Can you combine Stellenridge and Ridgeworth?
They next to each other in the same block between the same 2 main roads.

I think residents in Upper Oakdale should create a register to show interest. I think there could actually be a quite a few if we organised ourselves.

123net offers pretty decent packages and even those not looking for "Fibre Speeds" could benefit from the "Free Internet" option for example.

Loevenstein and Selborne are covered by Telkom FTTH and Welgemoed has cables being laid by MTN. I assume those areas then would not be an option for 123NET as they are already fibred by another provider?

Same here, in Oude Westhof too and waiting for FTTH. Techies were busy with the lines, very close to my house, about 30 mins ago.

Good evening blunt,

Our rollout plans are not affected by existing fibre. Fortunately, it is not a "first-come-first-serve" situation, and we are happy to lay our fibre in the same roads as Telkom or MTN's :)

Really? Thought all the fiber providers would go and do "territorial stakes" due to the cost of rolling out/contracts.

I'm also in Oude Westhof!

Any idea what they where doing? It looked to me like the whole team pulled out of the area.

I also saw some trenching done by DFA.
