Ouch, seems like Bellville is close to doomed for FTTH.

Can you combine Stellenridge and Ridgeworth?
They next to each other in the same block between the same 2 main roads.

Is Bellville not covered by cybersmart lightspeed ?

Cybersmart shows my house in Welgemoed as being covered but when I enquired they say they are not and I need to go get neighbours etc. to commit to joining if I want them to put fibre there. I think their coverage map is more of a "we're willing to put fibre here" map.

Yeah the Cybersmart route is almost impossible. I can get 1 of my direct neighbors to sign up, the rest are old people, so this getting 5 direct neighbors to sign up is well...impossible.

I stay in the stellenridge area and I have forwarded the 123net sign up link to my neighbour to send to other people in the area since he is part of the neighbourhood watch.

Yeah, I have posted to the Ridgeworth watch group on facebook as well.

123net fibre team, has given the following stats for specific suburbs I asked about:
Ridgeworth - 7 signups,
Stellenridge - 2 signups,
Stellenberg - 9 signups,
Upper Oakdale ("BO Oakdale") - 5 signups

So as you can see, there is a long road ahead for signups.

I'm also in Oude Westhof!

Any idea what they where doing? It looked to me like the whole team pulled out of the area.

I also saw some trenching done by DFA.

D

Damn, who can help us with some answers? I would like to know my options, who is in the area, which company installed the fibre, what routes can i go wrt isp's etc?

Peace

I am also in Oude Westhof

Coreline did the laying and the testing of everything. I see they have closed up some of the manholes etc and were testing at one of the places where the Dslams are. Its a new box. I have spoken to Telkom and it seems that they are waiting for technical to sign everything off.

Yeah, also talked to the techies on site. They where doing the backbone testing and then handover to telkom which should be latest end on the month.

What I do want to know is is it telkom fibre? Or dark fibre? What are the options when Telkom, thus you have to sign the 24mnths contract with telkom for the line then fish for a good isp (webafrica or whatever) etc?

I see they started digging a trench down the green belt between Oude Westhof and Van Riebeekshof. But it would seem that the trench ends at the "main exchange"

Problem is this.. (plain and simple) . I don't think the people in "upper oakdale" (Bo Oakdale) are willing to pay that kinda money to have FTTH.

Thats why we are stuck with ADSL (not even VDSL).

I would love FTTH, but don't think people are willing to coff the R12000 per month that cybersmart wants.

This whole business area (where they sell the cars and edward street is full of Fiber). But to trench just 1-2km from there to the "residential area" is gonna cost alot. I can't remember which company sent me an email, but they said it was something like R37,000 to trench 2km.

So i was like... (okaaaaaay.....) Skip that.

Has anyone managed to get more info on when the fibre will be active?

My internet connectivity seems to be going backwards. My line stopped working on 2 October. Still fighting with Telkom to get it fixed

Howzit man, no i've heard nothing seen no-one and i thought we were going live in October? No no info on any sites as well. My adsl connection is fine though. Maybe give telkom a call and ask about fiber in the area. Let us know :)

I just spoke to a guy on the corner busy with the Fibre box - he says another 2 months???

ADSL busy being sorted. Seems like a tipical case of someone else needing a line, and my line was disconnected to make "space"...

Been using Web Africa for the past 7 months and i have not once restarted the router. The stability is unbelievable.

My package is Web Africa FTTH 100mb/s with 300GB + 1TB after hours. R1148 a month. This is on the Telkom/Openserve line.

Ye. we stuffed in Bellville. Most ISP's don't want to put in a node unless they can get R20,000 per month commitment. (that would be 22-25 houses of R799 each.

Some of the isp's just send you an picture flyer (for you to print and hand out to your neighbors.)

It is very sad. We stuck with ADSL.
