Benni still 'too fat'

Apparently he has granted the media an interview so the story will unfold cause according to him he is fit, in a professional outfit Francisco Gonzalez should not be making such comments. Lets hope he did not munch Burger King.

Well he was supposed to appear at a press conference on Tuesday but then snubbed everyone. Probably had to wait for MacDonalds to make his BicMac.

He's made his money and thats all that matters to him, he's lazy.. Benni is the poster kid for everything thats wrong with SA footballers

He's past his prime but you'd have to think can he bring value to the squad.
As for his weight he should be put in the squad based on his physical performance(speed, endurance and goal scoring ability) compared to other strikers
3 more games to go so he should be "tested"

I agree, see my follow up post on the previous page, he's the most clinical finisher and experienced player we have
I was just commenting on his attitude and the attitude of other SA players

I feel that there is a sense of complacency about him. He basically waited until the 11th hour to try and get into shape because he knew that his place was guaranteed. It's really not fair on the other strikers that have worked their socks off during the camps but might end not getting selected.

Ok.
Honestly I don't think we are missing out if he doesn't play.

Exactly so he must fek off and stay home eating his MickyDs Give the people who wants to win a hard earned chance

Well CAP will obviously select whoever looks the most sharp in training

Just hope it isnt Parker! :D

Why ? I hope it's not because he stopped a goal against Iraq. Sh#t happens sometimes and you can't hold that against him forever.

what a joke asking the SA public to support this tub of lard...

Johannesburg - SAFA have confirmed that Benni McCarthy will face no punishment after snubbing a press conference on Tuesday.

The Bafana Bafana striker, who has been the centre of attention due to his fitness concerns, was scheduled to address local hacks, but had to be replaced by Matthew Booth at the 11th hour.

The national association claim a personal problem prevented the West Ham ace from fulfilling his obligation.

"I don't condone what Benni did, but I am not condemning him," said SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe.

"Something happened that disturbed him that morning ... but he will be available on Saturday.

and on another news on this lard @$$
Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy, cleared the air with the local media on Thursday and said he was fully committed to Bafana - whether or not he makes the final 23-man squad to play at next month's Soccer World Cup finals.

But the English-based striker said at age 32 he was still hungry and desperate to help Bafana during the first World Cup finals on African soil.

"Whether or not I play in the World Cup is up to the coach (Carlos Alberto Parreira), but if I do not make the cut, then the team will go on to achieve success without me.

"I am an ordinary person with some football skills. I hope to be in the final 23 and I am working hard to achieve that goal and I believe I will be at my best by the cut off date of June 1.

THat's not what you projected in the build up to the WC... you never helped so you don't deserve to be there!

He's always hungry, what are they getting at??

Shame now he goes back to West Ham lets hope slimmer & motivated and work towards being the old guy in the squad for the next Afcon. The decision now goes out to all soccer players in this country to act professionally and realise they are not bigger than the game or club.(No pun intended)

Why was Benni axed?

Here's why Benni and Rowan Hernandez were axed... anything I add could be misconstrued!!!

Benni axed over women
2010-06-06 08:34

S’busiso Mseleku, Elijah Moholola and Karin Burger, Rapport

Johannesburg – Bafana Bafana star Benni McCarthy – who is married – was left out of the final World Cup team after he apparently entertained women in the early hours of the morning in his luxury hotel room in Sandton.

This was also the reason why goalkeeper Rowen Fernandes was cut from the team.

The scandal follows another in sporting circles after it was revealed on Friday that Springbok lock Andries Bekker had been cheating on his wife of two years, Pioni, with a fourth-year student in Cape Town.

Sources in the Bafana camp told City Press that McCarthy and Fernandes were apparently entertaining women at 04:00 on Thursday morning at their hotel.

Coach Carlos Parreira was furious and immediately decided to cut the two from the team after security showed him CCTV tapes of McCarthy and Fernandes taking the women up to the room.

The incident took place shortly after the South African team’s pen-ultimate practice match (before the final team was announced) against Colombia.

It had been believed until now that McCarthy had been left out of the team because he was overweight and unfit.

Several sources, including a top soccer official and a hotel staff member who wanted to remain anonymous, confirmed the events.

Fernandes initially denied the report and McCarthy could not be reached for comment.
