Best 384K Uncapped

Hi all

I want to upgrade from my 10GB with a 384Kb line at Telkom, to a 384Kb Uncapped account. Main reason being that I want to download NZB's 24/7. Which ISP's offer the best prices/service for a 384Kb Uncapped account? Would it be better to use my existing Telkom line compared to others? Final question, generally how much would I be able to download per month if NZB's are downloading 24/7? Currently I'm downloading around 40GB per month before I run out of local bandwith.

I saw Mweb had the 1Mb Uncapped package for R199, but with a 384Kb line the speed would be throttled down, I read the article on MyBB that Mweb would be upgrading 384Kb users to 1Mb due to the fact that they want 1Mb Uncapped packages to be "the de facto standard" in SA, is this upgrade for the data or the line. Also what about Afrihost are they any good compared to Mweb or Openweb?

A current 384 account consists of 3 items:
1. Telkom POTS (tax)
2. Telkom ADSL rental for 384
3. ISP (capped or uncapped) for 384

If everything we read is true then by the end of June it will be like this:
1. Telkom POTS (tax)
2. Telkom ADSL rental for 1024
3. ISP (capped or uncapped) for 1024

And the price will be the same!!!

Confirmed from mweb site...

1mb uncapped account for R199(they have removed there option to get the 384kbps uncapped account you can only get it now if you get it with the adsl line from them)

If you can get telkom to move up your line speed to 1mb now, it will cost you an extra R 137 a month then you have 1mbps uncapped internet until they upgrade the line speeds, then you can either wait to change to 2mb or ask to remain at 1mb at a reduced price?

though the 384kbps line speeds are going to be upgraded first and so 1 month you might end up paying extra for the 1 mbps unless telkom automaticly switch you to the new pricing for the 1 mb line (doubtfull)

If everything we read is true then by the end of June it will be like this:

2. Telkom ADSL rental for 1024 - R152
3. ISP (capped or uncapped) for 1024 - R199
Total: R491
 
Telkom will be upgrading everyone lower than 1mbps to 1mbps soon, this is why MWEB changed their pricing and "bumped up" the 384k package to be the same as the 1mbps package.

So even though a 1mbps user is paying the same that a 384k user might be right now, in a few months time both will benefit and enjoy a minimum 1mbps standard.

OK so if I order a new 384k line now I'll be upgraded to 1mb in June? (if its true)

Actually it does sound reasonable, considering that my 2GB, a long long time ago, was upgraded to 5GB's, which was then upgraded a few months later to 8GB and at the beginning of this year my 8GB was upgraded to 10GB. Hopefully if all goes as planned 384Kb uncapped will be non-existent, and the uncapped ADSL for the budget user will be 1Mb.
