My Nissan is anything but soft. Theres nowhere I cant go that a Toy or a Land Rover or an Isuzu cant. Ive ridden off-road with all of them.

Come on now, girls. If your Navara lost its clutch so soon, change your driving habits... I drive a 2.5 diesel 4x4 Navara - did the 4x4 course with the likes of the rest, and went were they went - with my on road tyres. I have 50k on the clock, my friend's Navara has 78k on the clock. Clutches still OK. Went to Kalahari last July, where veryone drives Toyotas - drove up a steep dune with Navara, where only the farmer's Landcruiser apparently could go. My point, a 4x4 is only as good as its driver - basic lesson, do not overdo it, rather do it over..... Try and get that into a heavy right footed driver's head!
O yes, the chicks love my "sexy" bakkie and I get 10.5km/lt from its class leading 2.5 (not 3.0, like most of the rest) 128kw 403nm engine.
Find the Car mag of around Sep/Oct last year - they tested all the DCs - their conclusion - Navara or new Ranger/mazda....

You were doing quite well until you said that. The end of that test went along these lines.
The Navara was not part of the test firstly.
At they end the recommended the Hilux and said that after testing the Navara against the Hilux a few months previously they new that the Navara was not the better, and that the only bakkie that may be able to dethrone the Hilux was the up and comming revised Izuzu range. So I think you should go and read the summary of their DC comparative test again because what you have just posted is a completely incorrect.

Pardon me for taking so long to reply - but I had to look for my source. You are correct - my comment was not valid. However, only because I provided the incorrect source. The comparitive test I referred to was actually done by Wiel, the Car's sister mag, in Sep 07. Unlike the one in the Car - where the "winner" was based on speculation, Wiel actually tested all the contenders (Hilux, Triton, Navara, Hardbody, Scorpio, Mazda BT50, Ssanyong and Isuzu. In this test they provided the good and bad points of each vehicle - and make their choise of the "best" at the end.
Herewith their conclusion - translated "When it comes to a rational decision - the Hilux cannot be easily beaten. It is very competent in the field - and if that is the only criteria, then the Hilux is the most suitable"
"However, when a vehicle has to fulfill more than one role, then we feel there are better options. And their names are Nissan Navara and the Mazda/Ford Ranger. As far as overall space, performance, ride comfort and looks are concerned, the Navara is tops. It is also more than competend off road. However, it is more expensive than the Mazda/Ford - and for this reason only, we choose the Mazda/Ford..."
Anyhow - I am too old for these kind of games - the reason for my post was merely to remind forumites that one cannot judge a vehicle based on experiences of the past. Companies improve all the time. The Hiluz is good and it sells well, becuase Toyota as a Company did the right thing for the past few decades. Unfortunatelly the rest - Mazda, Nissan, etc, made a few booboos in their past.
However, if my Navara (my first Nissan, by the way) is anything to go by - I think Nissan is on the right path...

The thing with car magazines and all car reviews is that every "tester" has his own preference. So one might say Hilux is the best and another will say Navara or some idiot might even say Tata
. All I was questioning was your reference to Car Magazine as your source. To me if YOU like a car then buy it don't worry what others say, but then when you have problems with the car don't moan. ( Not directed at you) 
I had 4 Toyota Hilux's in my fleet until recently. Every single one of them gave me awesome service. They're virtually unbreakable. Never drove one personally though, but it handled the rigours of the construction industry quite comfortably - and the driving style of some questionable drivers in my employ at some points.
