Best ADSL Modem

I can't see that flashing it would have any impact on the modem's modulation at all, but I may be wrong.

The past 3 weeks the modem hasn't dropped once with that low 10dB SNR margin though. I'm not going to flash the firmware either, because we're soon going to move to another venue too.

Netgear all the way. I might pay bit extra but 2 year warranty no questions asked. Had lightning strike my home fried my Netgear and it was swopped out for new model, awesome friendly staff.

@payback:
I can only recommend the Netgear ADSL modems if you are living very close to the DSLAM, or if you know that you're never going to have a faster than 1Mbps connection,
and when you know that you're not going to make use of bridge/half-bridge modes.

Where did you get the Netgear modem & where did you swap it out? At the Telkom shop?

Mine kicked the bucked a month ago. I spent some time researching and ended up with the Linksys/Cisco WAG320N.

One freaking awesome modem/router!!

Bought my modem at IC Kollonade went to Duxbury in JHB and it was swapped out immediately.

Using a Netgear DGN2200 currently, had the Telkom DGN834 that I bought privately was also great little modem and was well cabaple of running 4meg line not sure about bridge/half-bridge modes you talking about. I'm about 2km from DSLAM as crow flies. Not sure how far by physical cable. Line noise is on the average side and I pretty much get my 4megs worth in terms of speed on my DGN2200 I'm happy. Hoping for around 5-6meg when DLSAM gets upgradded.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.0 db 26.0 db
Noise Margin 15.8 db 12.0 db

Thread necro alert!

I'm making some changes to my network configuration and need a new ADSL/2 modem. Just a modem. I have a Mikrotik router board that would need to dial the internet connection through it and I have Ubiquiti WiFi bits for wireless LAN so I really only need a modem with ethernet, nothing else.

Thanks for the thread Necro, I am looking at this now TP-LINK W8960N 300MBPS WIRELESS N ADSL2+ ROUTER for R520 to replace my D-Link 2740U

Is this still as good a router as it was three years ago?

Been using a D-link DSL-2750u since 2012 and it has been nothing but great! Always holds a stable connection with DSL and WiFi.

Bought it here: http://www.takealot.com/d-link-dsl-2750u-adsl2-wi-fi-router-4-port/PLID29378999

Also in the office, we had a Netgear that could never hold a steady connection, replaced it with a D-Link at everything has been perfect since.

Also recently bought a TP-Link for a friend and it seems great! http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/628023-Best-router-%E2%89%88-R350-R450
