Hey Guys,
I havent been much in the loop of phones so could use some help here.

Mother is up for an upgrade. Based on her usage Im getting her on the Talk 500.

She uses it for:
1) Calls
2) SMS
3) Camera

She is an avid photographer as she loves posting everything in the world to her social networking site - I'd almost get her a dedicated ultra-compact canon but I dont think she will like lugging around an extra device.

So she currently has a Sony Ericsson W890i so sticking to Sony would be ideal, maybe a Nokia.

Looking for something with a great camera (and flash / sensor / etc).

Was thinking Satio but have heard its slow (thanks Symbian). Would really like something with a great camera and especially to be responsive and have a quick camera boot up (nothing worse than waiting 10seconds for the camera to boot and the 'moment is gone').

I have a Satio nice camera and no it is not slow at all...

I have a Satio. Great phone. I recommend it.

I don't find it slow at all?

Not sure if she's ALREADY on Vodacom, but consider MTN; much cheaper for the phone.

Another option is the Vivaz. Still pics aren't as good, but it has the option of HD video recording (not sure if that matters).

I think you were right with your initial thought of getting her a compact camera like the canon - especially if she's an avid photographer.

I had some issues with the picture quality on the Satio. One of the reasons why I sold it eventaully. The colour reproduction on that phone is top notch, but the sharpness, or lack of sharpness was something that really pissed me off. I had 'crisper images on my N73 from 2 years ago than with the Satio, & no amount of fiddling with the limited stetings could get them any better.

If she only takes pics to upload to Facebook or whatever, then the Satio is the way to go, but if she is also viewing them on the computer, then she may be disapointed. & as u say, she is an avid photographer, so im sure she will know the diff bet a good photo & a bad one.

Thanks for the replies guys.

How about the Vivaz?
Not as high MP's and no Xenon Flash (just normal LED) - but:
a) No pay in, its free
b) Its Android, not Symbian (should give less issues and be faster)
c) Its smaller/lighter

The Vivaz is a super 8mp camera phone. I rate it as the best 8mp camphone available. It is also fast plus she may enjoy the sweet HD recording facility. I'd say go for it.

By the way, the Vivaz runs on Symbian S60 v5 and not Android.

Vivaz is a good phone all round but is full touch screen like the satio. from experience older folks don't take a liking to them. there is a sony-ericsson aino also has 8mp camera like the vivaz but has a keypad as well.

I still struggle to replace my Nokia n82. The Satio and Vivaz appear the way to go but I don't like Touch screens that much. Did we ever get the Samsung i8900?
