Hey guys. I just opened my case for the first time in about a year and wow, is it dirty in there! Everythings coated in a layer of very fine dust that doesn't budge when I blow onto it (it's sorta sticky). So I would like to know how I go about getting rid of all that gunk safely. Any info appreciated as always.

First off (and I apologise) "YUCK!"

Then, I suggest that you take it outside and take out the part (mainly the graphics, soundcard, hard-disks and optical drives) and clean them individually. Use a compressor carefully (a strong burst of air can damage components) to blow the dust away.

Good luck and don't let things get that bad again! A layer of dust works like a blanket, trapping heat and also builds up static that can fry things.

Soft clean paint brush and regulated compressed air - be careful of canned air as you can get moisture that drips on the PCB's and components - always take time and don't rush the cleaning job - is worth doing it correctly...

Take your box to the nearest petrol station and use their air hose if you dont have access to a compressor at home.
