Best connection advice needed pretty please.

Hiya guys and gals of mybb who enjoy wow. Need some advice pretty please.
Not too happy at the moment with my wireless service provider as stability and latency have started to become an issue in my enjoyment of wow game play.

I have been looking at telkoms wired options but need to know real world numbers.
i.e. What are latency's like on Do Broadband lvl 2: 512 line and sp would also be telkom.
Or any better options in a similar price range I cannot justify R 700.00+ per month for the 4 meg line option.

ok don't sign up whit telkom contract etc.

just buy 512k line with them.

then if want best wow experience get capped unshaped from axxess , the lite option.

or even better a wa shaped account, it does cost allot more though.

and another thign not sure what raids you do etc, but there is now way you can raid 25 mans these days with 384, so you will have to pay 512k, which so damn exspensive >.<

the Do 3 is the best option ,price and speed wise.you czn learn to ues the news servers then thr 30 gig local becomes very usefull .or you can try the uncapped options from afrihost, axxess or wmeb .its all the same actually.

Any ideas of latency on sugested ?
 
512k minimum as mentioned,webafrica accounts giving me 230ms for the shaped accounts so happy as a pig in mud
 
512k is not really worth the money, you might as well go for 4mbps then.

Either way, I would suggest you get something like BattlePing also, is use it with an uncapped account (bad for gaming in essence), and get ~250ms pretty much all the time.

Makes you wonder how South Africa is seen on the outside world if we talk about our "Broadband internet connection"...
Now imagine if Blizzard decides to "only" support users on Broadband connections...

4mbs line + R133+cap makes it way expensive I use lowerping with IBurst my latency has just been getting worse and worse and stability has become an issue :( so looking for affordable and decent solution to problem. I just cant justify R700+ but 512+ the line rental and bandwidth from a SP sounds like my best option.

Any other latency figures for this kind of setup?

Webafrica has a deal for R599 per month for up to 10mbps (so if your exchange supports 10mbps) and 10GB cap.

I'm a WebAfrica user and extremely happy with the service and quality of the connection.

If you want a lower cap maybe you can take the 5GB option with a upto 10mbps line for R499.

The prices above is including the ADSL line :) (excluding the analogue line though).
 
Issues are starting to arise for me as well
Everything was great pre cata
I have WA/ proxy and a 384k

Now all of a sudden im getting dcs and massive 'world' latency in high population areas ( org , raids and bgs)

heroics and questing i sit with 240ms...


Guess its time to get that 512k and see if it halps

I moved 2 weeks ago and have to wait for my ADSL line which will only be installed in March (so they say). Thus I'm stuck (pun intended) with iBust. I can't even go near the AH in Stormwind so I hang around in Ironforge :(

Miss my ADSL...

try this. use WA, no proxy and the leatrix fix. theres a new version out. I do it with axxess uncapped and Im mostly in the yellow now with no proxy. and thats at the AH/bank. with WA should be in the high greens

man the wait sucks balls. I found a new place , better area, cheaper rent And i didnt take it because i couldnt bare going through that wait again.

I have leatrix, removed and reinstalled it last night funny enough. No improvment. Sometimes i can log in with a 1k ms with WA (with PRO Titanium prioritised bandwidth)

Will try without the proxy tonight and then lowerping(use battleping normally)- then an axxess account and if no improment ill upgrade to 512 (exchange doesnt support higher) and if that doesnt work atleast i can do achievements

for some reason leatrix and proxies clash, so do it without the proxy 1st. and go download the latest version 1st

Have the same 10Gb package from WebAfrica, ~220-330ms using no tunnel service or proxy etc.
The 5Gb deal plus telkom R130 per month would be around R630 pm.

Would not recommend the slower connection speeds, but guess it would do if you are content with ~500ms latency and more spikes in crowded areas/ raids...
 
Ok I tested a few things last night.
What had the most impact on reducing my latency was updating my network adapter driver:o:o
Otherwise I get the most stable using a proxy and leatrix. I tried all sorts of combos
Only place I seem to have a problem is Isle of Conquest when both factions clash for the 1st time = lag and dc
I had a look the the pretty nifty WTFast bandwidth usuage thing and it is indeed my 384 which is not able to handle the massive influx

What im most surprised about is that 384k has always been has been sufficient . Im sure people used to preach that anything higher was unnecessary.
Otherwise thou had great ms last night in 10man. All smiles
 
I use 4mb line + Mweb 4mb uncapped (Cape Town) + Battleping. This gives me 163ms to Europe and 170-180ms in game constant. Without Battleping, it degrades and fluctuates a lot, 230ms+++.

More expensive setup than what you guys are using/aiming for. It was just what I got to work well while being able to download a lot.
