Hi Ordered a Roku 3 from Amazon a few days ago. What I wanted to find out was how to go about setting up a Roku account, it says to add a credit card to your account. Does it accept an SA credit card and address or do you use a US address with a SA credit card.

I setup a USA account and used PayPal as the payment method.

As i said I didn't use paypal at all as it required a US paypal account and I didn't want to go through the trouble of creating another paypal account.

What I did was use my credit card directly on Hulu and then I did the post code dance that I explained in my previous post, because it wants a "US credit card"

Dude, you are a baussssssss.....

I signed up for the 1 week free trial, entered my ABSA CC details (FNB first but that failed), and used the postal code 69125-1610 which turns out to be Morrill County. Lol.

I did as you said. Googled "usa postal codes 1610" where 1610 is Edenvale. Sorted. Hulu+ activated.
 
:D Glad to help. I find it so funny that it works its so weird they don't actually validate ANY of the fields just randomly look for a couple of numbers.

Okay so my new Rolu 3 US has arrived today. I see the plug is a US 2 flat point plug sort of like this: http://goo.gl/TFxzi

Did you guys also get one like this? What did you do?

Yeah that is the standard plug. I am currently using an universal adapter I got from the UK a few years ago and is working just fine. I want to get a newer one as the one I have now is huge and takes up 3 plug points on my adapters so quite a waste. I asked a while back in this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/497132-Apple-TV-or-Roku-2-XS/page12 - it more in the middle.

Just cut the plug out and replace with a nice 3 pin local plug...easy peasy!
 
OK so my Roku 3 arrived today. Came with a black AC adaptor as in the picture below, which says
- Input:120V ~ 60hz 0.4A
- Output: 12V ~ 1A

I have a simple pin converter (white thingy above) that will convert the American flat pins to rounded European/South African pins. Is this good enough? From what I understand, our local voltage is 220/230V, while the AC adapter supplied with my Roku 3 only accepts 120V. I'm afraid I might have to buy a whole new AC adapter, instead of simply using the pin converter. I don't want to risk frying my Roku 3.

Can anyone comment if they received the same AC adapter as mine, and what they did? Or advise me on what to do?

You need a new DC transformer with 220v input and same output. If u plug this in it will blow the transforme.
An alternative is an AC 220v to 120v step down transformer.

It won't blow. All of us are using this device straight into 240v. Answered in another thread already (dude triple posted).

I had a device from US with 120v. Went pop when I plugged in.
