Hi everyone

I recently moved to Joburg and theres alot of what looks like fibre construction happening in Sandton area I've seen while driving around.

I am not sure how many companies are building, but it got me thinking - who would you say builds the best fibre network in South Africa and why?

Thanks :)

Good question .Defintely not the best bang for your buck but surely openserve due to its back haul links and size of network must be up there? I am not a telkom fan boy but my FTTH from them is pretty stable

I'd put near every other provider besides MTN and Vodacom above them due to the insane pricing when one uses OpenServe, compared to the competition. OpenServe messed up forcing fiber to go through IPC.

Vumatel, Octotel, Frogfoot and Fiberhoods. Those are the best FTTH providers.

Vumatel, they use active ethernet as opposed to GPON.

Never knew that, but after looking closely at some installation pics floating around on the net, I'd have to agree here.

AE makes a huge difference over GPON, and I would have to concur then too - I would go Vuma without thinking twice :)

Thing is you generally can't choose your fibre provider (one per area), but you can choose your ISP.
