I still don't see the point of that. I reckon some or other programmer said "Hey, look at me. Look what I can do. I'm so cool" and for some or other reason it was included in the release:confused:

I can see why vlc is more popular though. So many options for an already indecisive person, yikes!
 
Well in all honesty I use Klite Mpc and VLC, there was this one time back in June where VLC could not play a specific Anime I was trying to watch(I know I was totally shocked too!).Between the 2 of them there is NOTHING you cannot play, video and codec wise.

The one nice feature about MPC i do like is that you can just click to pause, maybe VLC has that but I have not found the setting.

VLC is still my favourite though.

It blocks certain IPs from connecting to you and you from connecting to them, that is why it is so usefull to use when you for example download torrents and don't want certain companies (spying on you) to connect to you. You will install peerblock and set it to grab a list for p2p block list and have a lot of IPs blocked.
 
K-lite codec pack with MPC definitely the way to go. I just hate VLC's interface.
(BTW, for your media centre PC connected to your TV with IR remote instead of keyboard/mouse - use XBMC or Boxee)

Also +1 to the guy who said Supercopier a coupla pages ago. One of the best windows apps ever. Drag and drop copy queuing. Copying lots of files from a friend's PC to your USB drive? Just drag and drop all files and folders as you work your way through his collection, they get added to the queue, and then you can do something else while it all copies.

ACDSee for image viewing and photo collection management. Used to be shareware only tho, not sure about the new version.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but hopefully these'll be of some use.

BTW, can replace most of the above by simply installing Linux Mint, lol.

Impressive number of those on the list are also open-source (All except dropbox afaik).

K-lite rant:
K-lite works fine...until something goes fubar with the codec installation/removal. Won't touch that thing again without running it in a virtual machine, so that it can't break codec support system-wide.:sick: Hell, one of the previous k-lite versions even manage to break the intro movie on one of my games.:rolleyes:
 
I've found all Mozilla software (esp Songbird) to be a bit bloated. Too big and slow for the simple tasks they're meant to be doing. Admittedly, I haven't touched Songbird since it was in early Beta.
 
Uninstalled Klite MPC. Worst program ever. Messed up my audio. Movies were not audible.

Back on trusty vlc.

I never left. A Google search showed KLite wasn't the greatest:)
 
I have experimented with GIMP and Inkscape and not being a programmer find both a bit tiresome on Vista Business 32. Neither work properly (like PaintShop Pro 5, for example) and both crash out too often.

Firefox is becoming too resource-hungry with all those add-ons. Flock is a subset and well worth using if the PC is RAM-hungry or old (I use it on Windows 2000 SP4, Vista 32 and Vista 64).

Google Chrome is okay but does not have any AdBlock add-ons.

Audacity is great, but I use Adobe Audition 3.0.1, and ClickRepair.

OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 is fabulous! Far superior to its Micro$oft counterpart.

I have not used DropBox due to bandwidth constraints. Not too keen on uploading sensitive data to external sites, particularly audio files.

As soon as I throw out Vista/Windows7 and go Linux Mint, I will use VirtualBox as this is the only place for M$.

Just my 0,02c worth.
