I agree, if you're looking for something that just plays (coz really, thats all most of us want), MPC is awesome.

Also check out AIMP2 for an awesome music player/ripper.

K-Lite codec pack needs to be up there amongst the top 10 and allows all formats to be played in WMP - no need for VLC which i dont particularly like.

Foobar should also be there as a music player... support for every format under the sun and downloadable attachments to do stuff like sync your ipod... it also allows me to bypass my ****ty soundcard and play through my DAC
