It's too hard for me to give one game, so I will go by genre. Each Genre will have an old and a new title.

FPS

Old: Doom - all of 'em.

New: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

RPG

Old: Baldur's Gate - 1 and 2 + expansions

New: Oblivion

Third Person Shooter

Old: Gears of War (oldest 3rd person shooter I like)

New: Gears of War 2

Platform

Old: Mario (all things NES)

New: Banjo Kazooie

RTS

Old: Dune II

New: Starcraft (lost interest in RTS after this)

Old: Lords of the Realm II
