Also worth a watch on gaming amps for headsets
I bought the GSX 1200, because that's what's available. I couldnt find the GSX 1000 for sale in SA.
I also couldn't find any of the other recommended dac/amp solutions in SA, and certainly not for the price of the GSX 1200s.
Everything Z says in that video is obviously true.
Open back is already a big step up from closed back headphones, but the 7.1 mode on this thing just opens the world up a whole lot more. It really sounds great. The downside, as per the LTT video, is that it seems to be less accurate. I died in Tarkov because I thought I heard someone in front of me.... he was behind me. Then again, Tarkov's audio has some known issues.
The "team chat" volume rocker is actually bound to a different logical audio device. The GSX 1200 adds 2 audio devices to your PC, Main Audio and Communications Audio, with the latter the output I select as the output in discord. That allows me to change to volume of that device relative to the main audio. I would say about +25% -25%. It makes it useful when switching between games where your friends sometimes overpower your game sounds, to one where the game sounds overpower your friend's voices in a firefight for example. Very useful.
It has a 16 bit mode and a 24bit mode, and I can hear the difference, but the 16 bit mode isn't bad. The problem is that the above two features only works in 16 bit mode. If you move to 24 bit mode, you lose the 7.1 and the additional audio device.
By the sound of it, with Z switching between 7.1 and 2.0, he was using it in 16 bit mode. You change modes by selecting the bitrate in the audio device configuration in windows.
The volume wheel is great if you don't already have a keyboard with a volume scroller, and it works much better than using volume up and down buttons.
