I am in the market for an iMac for music production but in checking the prices, it seems that Core set the retail price, or am I confused. Popped in at Incredible Corruption to check the price, expecting them to be far more expensive than anywhere else, only to find that they too are retailing at R24,999.00.

Anyone know if they are available cheaper, locally? Or should I just buy it from Incredible?

All mac prices are pretty much the same imo - same distributor (Core) so there is little in the way of wiggle room.

I'd actually suggest a macbook pro from overseas if you can swing it. Save a fortune that way and get the added bonus of portability.

Thanks bwana.

The portability isn't really an issue as I have 2 laptops already. This will be more of a permanent fixture in my studio and to be honest, I am buying it more for Logic (music software) than anything else (apart from the name and stability). I also love the look of the iMac. Had one in my studio the other day and decided there and then that I had to have one.

So R24,999.00 it is then. Incredible Corruption might just get some business form me for a change.

I'm looking forward to the move - started these forums as a Windows only guy - moved over to Kubuntu, then Ubuntu, now its time for the real upgrade!!!!

That's one heck of a promo.

So in other words, it's R20k I will not regret spending? It's a big move going down the Mac road, especially for something as important as my music production...

The last time I had a iMac it was tangerine in colour . . . or was it blue  . . . so best not be asking me. I'm a laptop guy through and through. :)

But . . . for what you're planning to do I dont think you will be disappointed.

Fantastic. Time to go stretch the legs of my cheque card then - I feel like a kid the day before Xmas - all very exciting!!! :D

I agree with Bwana, you won't regret getting an MBP. I do have one of the aluminium iMacs too and I never regretted getting that either, if you don't need the portability it really is a super machine

Good decision, I'm a garageband user but would like to give logic a go someday.

Congrats on getting the iMac.

I got the 24" one in April/May last year, paid 21k for it.
So u got it at a good price.

No regrets yet, unless you think not wanting to ever use a "PC" again is something you'll regret.

The 20" one is better "value" for money, but you'll really wish u got the 24" one.

And welcome to the Mac section, fanboy. :)
