Best IP for International Speed?

Greetings

I am looking to find an ISP that gives reasonable international speeds.

I noticed whilst streaming a video from an international site on xbox live this weekend that I was only getting about 500kbps on AXXESS Lite unshaped.

I then purchased some R29 for 3GB from Afrihost and I managed to get about 1mbps.

I know generally on my TELKOM DO account I can sometimes see about 2.5mbps on a good day.

Locally I am running at a nice 3.5mbps which I am reasonably happy with.

Any advice?

500kbps international on a 4meg line... ouch!

My advice will be biased since 1. I've only been with 1 provider and 2. I generally don't check my streaming speed

Try openweb GOLD Neology or IS backbone.
 
So webafrica rox the sox off most and generally people don't get good international speeds?
 
Yeah, I got a server or two in their datacentre and trust me the speed is amazing!

Having said that my company is also a reseller, so I should be able to get a better deal... I will investigate!
 
You should try MWEB. Http is very fast and torrents are shaped but the speed is still pretty decent

Hmm yes but then I go check out their site which all state "Fair Use Policy apply to this account."
Which is fine but where do they publish their fair use policy at all
I can't even see the normal terms and conditions on their site

Now looking at Cybersmarts own website they don't even offer uncapped
So what kind of service can you expect from reseller whose packages looks allot better than primary supplier?

So what is fair use in their terms?

“Yes you get 10Mb/s right up until you hit your 10GB fair use limit
We will then give you a full 56K/b throughput for the rest of the month”
 
No luck on Vodacom!

Business clients cannot purchase consumer offerings... :-(
 
I just purchased a 1 gb prepaid from from afrihost and I got full speed to the UK.

Now only a single problem, streamin sky ni sd from xbox live ( UK ) is still caching all the tmie, Minimum HD requirements are listed as 4mbps.

I peaked out at between 600kbps and 1.1mbps, but yes, caching like youtube on a ISDN line.

So the verdict is in, xbox live sky streaming does not work properly in SA, regardless of ISP.

What local ISP's advertise and what they deliver are two completely different things – as there is no clear regulation or enforcement thereof, therefore the status quo exists.

i.e. non disclosure of contention ratios, etc.
 
This thread must die! Please, there are so many variables that can influence dl/ul rates that if you don't take all (or at least the most relevant) factors into account *simultaneously*, your results will be (at best) subjective.

Go home and do some Real homework!
 
Well Havoc, I would like to dissagree.

I have tested accounts from NEOTEL, Telkom, Webafrica, Afrihost and also Axxess.

Going back to the beginning I was using a 28.8kbps modem.

I have a 6mbps 1:1 neotel fibre at work and we do business with Vodacom Business.

When we were testing our 6mbps neotel fibre it had no cap, I was hitting 50mbps on international downloads.

At vodacom business hosting I can hit up to 90mbps local and up to 15mbps to london uk via speedtest.net

So, if I buy a 1GB package from Axxess, or Neotel, or Afrihost or Telkom my maximum speeds are 1.5mbps to 2.6mbps using speedtest.net to London UK.

If I purchase the same package from WebAfrica I can get 3.5mbps to 3.6mbps on the same speedtest.

From local testing I know that 3.5mbps to 3.6mbps is the best I can get from my local exchange, 3.9mbps after a major power failure in the area.

So, based on all of the above information, webafrica has the best international speeds I have personally seen on ADSL.

I should also mention the same tests to speed.io strangely enough yield 100% results regardless of ISP. ( German speed testing server... )

So, utilising a consistent testing mechanism in my opinion as much as my testing may be objective I am very much accepting my methodology.

Just a quick update, webafrica was hitting peak speeds of 2.6mbps on my tests yesterday :-(
