Best ISP for 2Mbps uncapped service

I am busy tying to decide which ISP to use for a 2Mbps uncapped package (excluding line). Lets see who on this forum knows the most.

These are my requirements:
  • Ideally I don't want to pay more than R299 pm.
  • I use between 50-80GB per month.
  • The account will be used during the day and night times.
  • The internet connection will be mostly used for normal browsing, email etc.
  • I will often use the account for streaming from the Supersport website. This should not buffer. (Unless Supersport has their problems) - night time and weekend use
  • Other streaming requirements includes the odd youtube video binge and playing with some smart TV streaming apps when there is time. 480P Youtube videos must not constantly buffer.
  • I will not use the service for P2P or any other heavy HTTP downloads

These are the options I am looking at:

  • Afrihost 2Mbps uncapped @ R297
  • Axxess 2Mbps uncapped @ R265
  • Web Africa 2Mbps uncapped @ R199
  • OpenWeb Gold Uncapped 2Mbps @ R249
  • MWEB Uncapped 2Mbps (Not Premium) @ R199
  • Incredible Connection 2Mbps uncapped @ R99

Who should I use and why?

I'm currently using the Web Africa 2Mbps uncapped @ R199 account and your requirements fall in with mine (except I download in the region of 160gb a month max)

I've been with MWEB and Afrihost (Axxess is basically Afrihost) and haven't even touched OpenWeb after being treated really badly by their CEO for asking simple questions before actually buying an account.

An alternative to my suggestion would be the Incredible Connection one, but I feel they've mismanaged so much in the past, that it will probably be the same as pulling teeth when you do need support, and I know Web Africa is working on their issues at least. Both of them use the same backbone (IS)

Netflix and Youtube streams without buffering. Youtube sometimes stutters right in the beginning, but it's not as annoying as Afrihost or MWEB where it's CONSTANTLY buffering, making it impossible to watch anything.
 
Thanks for the reply envo. Did some reading and think I will test the Incredible Corruption 2Mbps special. Fits in with my usage patterns.
 
You most likely will be throttled with any of the uncapped accounts, why don't you rather go for a capped account of 100gig

I'm with Mweb I want to move. Should I?
I download +100gig per month. My choices are between Afrihost and Web Africa.

Forgot that this thread is about 2mb lines, I agree, that would be the best value for money. Capped only really makes sense if you have a faster line I guess.

Connection 2mb uncapped R99 special is a good option if one is looking for an after hours account, normal price R199 I think.

OW Titan - R149
OW Gamer King - R226
Afrihost - R297
Web Africa - R199

I got 1 gamer at home who mainly games after hours and on weekend.
Looking for the lowest price best service.

Was on mweb but cancelled. Need an account before month end.

You help and expertise would be greatly appreciated :)

Well lets see. I'm currently on OpenWeb - their standard uncapped 2 Mbps for R209. They have been great! Had them for about 6 months now. Day time speeds are not all that wonderful, but for browsing and Youtube it works. Generally I find things pick up nicely after 6pm and go down hill after 9:30 - 10 am. Most nights are unshaped, or at least seem good enough to be :)

I've been with Web Africa - Home Uncapped, they were much better during the day as long as I didn't lower my star ratings too much by downloading everything during the day. If I kept most downloads during Download Plus hours my star ratings stayed up. 5 stars gave me ~ 80 - 90% line speed for torrents during the day time. On 1 star everything seemed slow during peak hours. Torrent basically as slow as 'might as well not waste electricity by having your computer on'. :P

I was with Cybersmart before that on their home uncapped, this was when they were waiting for their network upgrade and they were useless for anything international. I was on their business account for a bit during that time and it was great. Before that on their capped account for a year and it was also, in fact I would say it was the best account I've ever had in terms of stability and game latency. Since their network upgrades I've heard good and bad about them - mostly complaints about their support being terribly slow to reply.

I'm now moving over to Web Africa's 60 GB + 60 GB capped product for R199. This will cover my needs for a month, plus the extra 60 GB in case of any large downloads I may need and the better day time speeds when required will be nice. :)

You won't find a better deal than connection.co.za 2mb special @ R99
