Hey guys

I just bought a house in Groenkloof Pretoria, I am a gamer and looking for the best ISP for pings to Europe ect.

I know Vox is quite good as they use west coast lines, but do they work well with openserve?

I am looking at Vox, supersonic, Afihost or whom ever you suggest.

Cheers and thanks

Hi, We use west coast cables exclusively and have some of the best latency available.

When I was with Vox I had my VPN turned on permanently because they told me 200ms to London was perfectly acceptable.

I'm with Afrihost now, and my London and Frankfurt ping are both around 170-180ms.

Plus with Vox whenever an undersea cable went down my internet became basically useless if I wasn't on my VPN but now with Afrihost if you don't see the news article about it it's like it didn't even happen.

Afrihost or Cool ideas would be your best bet, especially with them able to give support on the forums

Vox is a nightmare when it comes to support - check the forums.

FYI: Everybody is using West Coast undersea cables, the alternatives have been down for months.

if its gaming related purposes. I would check out https://urbanx.co.za/ - meant to be gaming targeted/orientated ISP. I personally don't use them, but I've heard good reviews in terms of latency/stability.
As per their ping page their CT latency is actually pretty bad compared to what i get to the games ive played with CISP

Yea I noticed that as well, 16 ping to Valorant from CPT when Valorant is hosted by AWS which is in CPT

Apex at 164ms if thats London/AMS servers that higher
Warzone WEST 167 (not sure location but west ping is normally around 150)
Dota they have 32ms it should be 16/17
FF EU 191 is pretty high unless servers are Finland/Norway region
Fortnite West i would image should be about 150-160
LoL WEST i know CISP gets about 155-160 last time i checked
Minecraft 33ms? Imagine its a JHB server so should be 17ms
Overwatch 2 should be about 155ms (i use to get 149 to OW1)

And as you mentioned Valorant CT should be 1-5ms

So yea skeptical either that page is very bad or their network ain't amazing

Doesn't Vox also insist that you use their own very locked down ISP-supplied router? That would be a deal breaker for me. Personally I've been happy with Afrihost on Openserve for years now and you can use your own network equipment without any issue.

And then you find out most of the "cheap" ISP's have a 24month R2000+ cancellation policy o_O

Yes, always check the cancellation policy of any prospective ISP. If you have to cancel by calling them, or filling in some kind of form, or any other inconvenient means that is clearly meant to make it as difficult as possible to cancel then stay far away.

you can sign a release form and they give you your PPPoE details but it is a bit of an extra mission
