Best Laptop for R8k?

Hi All,

what is the best deal laptop you can currently get for R8k, it is a general purpose work machine for email, office, browsing, nothing insane, but want the best i can get for the money so we can get full use out of it.

I consider it an absolute necessity, and more important than CPU.

Remember this is not a multifunction machine.
With a SDD everything will respond faster.

IMHO get a i3, 4GB ram + SDD.
For a general purpose machine (non gaming/video editing) you do not need more.

unfortunately i feel yes, it is for family, and i don't want to be involved in issues regardless of warranty left.
 
sigh they just called me and told me they are going with one on a data contract from vodascum, what a waste of my time. probably getting older generation stock in a 2 year contract :rolleyes:

I do not disagree, no need to prove your point, but try explain this to an older person who has had their mind filled with a sales rep at IC. so i just do the best i can to get the best standard spec for my buck.
 
I get all excited about SSD's in laptops.

2 or 3 years ago we went for some database course, with our i7 "monsters"(2nd generation if i remember correctly).
In comes an oke with a crappy old dual core celeron but he mentioned added a SSD.
So during the course we had to populate our databases with a thousands of rows of data, and his machine just keeps up.
I ordered my first SSD during that course.

My sympathy though for trying to help people.
I have had that experience as well; asked for my advice, then chose a lower specced machine due to liking it's color.

I've seen their pricing fluctuate like this. I have a couple of items in my wishlist that I check on and often see pricing go low and then shoot up again the next day and so on.

It was that one as I remember it saying no optical drive when I bought it, but when I checked reviews it had one.
