Hi guys, I am about a week away from putting together a new pc which I plan to use for running virtual servers, sql server etc. and occasional gaming.

I have no preference for either amd or intel, but I would prefer bang for buck.

Have you not been following the fights on the other threads? :D

I say, Intel I5 750 + Gigabyte GA-H55-UD2H.

It depends on how many virtual servers? If only 1 or 2 then a quadcore is fine, If you want more then the 1055T might be a good buy.

If you shopped around you could get a better board with better pricing.. but thats basically the route to go

I was looking at the I5 750 or the AMD 945

With you on that one sharkbait.Maybe a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with H/T and Intel GAV 915D Mobo?:whistle::D
:rolleyes::cry:

max 2, I use vmware to run a server which runs win nt and runs a database server and an application server for a very data\resource intensive software application which is normally run on high end servers

I don't really need a 6 core.

thanks for all your replies so far

what is the best mobo with a I5 750?
best mobo with amd 945\955?

^combined total(mobo + cpu) should be under R3000

ppplease...

i5 you looking at about R1800 - R2000 depending where you order from
Asus P7P55DLE(~R1300) or P7H55-M (~R1100)

AMD not sure but Think you can do it for about R2800 total with decent mobo.
I'd really try find one of these http://www.prophecy.co.za/890gxg65-sb850-fsb5200mhz-ddr3-pcie-p-68447.html

thanks npeanut, is it really worth spending over 1000 on a mobo, especially if its unlikely that I will upgrade it within the next 3 years?

is it worth spending a little extra on the I5 750 vs amd 955?

which mobo under R1100\1000 would you recommend for the 955\945?

Like all components are important in a PC, Don't underestimate the need for a decent mobo since it basically holds everything together..
That AMD mobo from shark is also very good. Esp if you want usb3/sata3
