samsung

samsung nc10 is a super netbook, excellent screen and upgradeable. For R1000 extra i replaced hdd with western digital 320, 7200rpm and upped memory to 2gb. It definitely deserves mentioning. The pearl white looks very nice, sturdy and good looking.

No - the hdd version has a slightly different form factor.

You can shoe-horn a iPod hdd into a SSD model but that's about it.

Incidentally I dont have any speed issues with my 120gb AAO . . . just battery life issues :o
 
Anyone try the Gigabyte Booktop M1022M? How is it compared to the NC10. It has a newer Atom processor (N280) IS THE R1K more justifyable?
 
I'm a Dell fan :D How about the following spec for a Dell L2100:

  • Intel® Atom Processor N270, 1.0GB int memory
  • 10.1in Widescreen WSVGA (1024X576)
  • Windows XP (Come-on Win 7..)
  • 160 GB HD
  • 6 Cell battery

Another thimbs up for Dell here. I bought my wife the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 running XP (R3399 at kalahari) a couple of months ago, and my only regret is that I don't have the cash to get myself one too ;) One of the big sells for me is that it's the first machine I've ever used that is absolutely dead silent - solid state FTW :)
The build quality is great, the battery life is phenomenal (once again, a win for SSD) and by the time she does need extra storage, I'll just spend a couple hundred bucks on whatever high capacity SSD card is available.

@DearHeart Way above the budget we had for a new machine at the time :)
ActuallyI'm hoping by the time I do my next upgrade Dell have introduced a 10" Alienware or XPS specced machine (they have 13" XPSes) that I can just plug into my full size monitor and keyboard when I'm using it at home.
I know there are some high end netbooks being introduced by other vendors, but I'm really impressed with the Dell.

For R2k cheaper, you can get the Samsung NC10 with BT and Wi-Fi included. For just about the price you quoted, you can get the NC10 with 3G. [and no, I have nothing to do with the company I linked to.]
