Best New Laptop

Hi,

Since I am now teaching online, I require a laptop that fulfills the following:
1) Has excellent battery life
2) Is fast
3) Has good storage
4) Blocks out background sounds
5) Will last for long

Any suggestions on which will be the best laptop for these?

MacBook Air, no question. You may have to get up to speed with cloud storage if you aren't already, as 256GB is the likely storage under R20k.

You're not going to find the strengths of a MBA on the Windows side without spending far more.
  • Insane battery life
  • High res, colour accurate display
  • Fast processor
  • Rock-solid build quality
  • Good webcam
  • Excellent mic
  • Excellent speakers
For most people, the MBA is the perfect computer. You can't get everything but the kitchen sink unless you're going to pay through the nose. Given your budget and having to concede on some points, the base model MacBook Air is in a league of its own imo. Especially when video calls are a priority for you.
 
Lenovo Ideapad 3 range have some nice ones. Although I haven't seen much variety since the pandemic in 2019/2020

If you are willing to go through the pain getting stuck in the apple workflow, the Macbook Air is very good value for the money and should tick most of the boxes, however super limited on space. But for video calling this should not be an issue.

asus zenbook 11th gen I7 just bought one for my wife ... 18k its fantastic

I have the 2014 mba and it is still going strong.
Battery still lasting the whole day.

I use a 24” Dell monitor with it, so if you’re using a laptop for work from home, budget for a monitor as well.

The keyboard is much improved over the previous Gen butterfly design.
It's compact and small profile makes it great for travel and mobility.
