Which ones are currently the best open source Linux packages for web based email integrating with sendmail? So far I've looked at RoundCube, SquirrelMail and Scalix. Please, give me some more idea of other tried and tested packages.

Horde.

Feature rich and reliable. RoundCube and SquirreMail are horrible.

I've looked at Horde some years ago and at that stage it was a horrible package to get it working. May be it's less buggy these days but I'm looking for something more lightweight.

Have a look at Afterlogic WebMail Lite at http://www.afterlogic.org/

I have been using it on all my hosted sites without any problems. Easy to install and you can mod it for the same look/feel of your existing site/brand

Been using it for more than 18 months without hassles.

Plesk is actually pretty decent, however I do respect the fact that once you are used to cpanel you like to stay with your accustomed ways.

Personally I think both work, and thus not going to debate that. What I do think is, since this is a opensource webmail thread, you should at least look into Atmail, it really is very appealing, even if you are used to horde, I think Atmail is a newer better alternative to Horde.

Make no mistake, I do support Horde as a second choice, which is what opensource is all about, but don't dismiss Atmail because you don't like Plesk. I've grown quite accustomed to Plesk and find it to be just fine.

RoundCube looks too much like osx for my taste, though it does work. Anyways, isn't the idea to give the OP as many options as possible and have him choose what he wants after looking at suggestions. I am happy with atmail, horde works ect, but they not all the same, or great or bad, mostly just different.

personally, I can use all of them, its mostly up to preference.

If you are including full email solutions, which include the smtp server etc, Zimbra OSS is pretty cool. I find the features very full, and it is better looking than Horde.

No, I don't need full email solution, just ideas for web based email and may be clues on why a particular package is better than others.
