Which CPU below R1000-00 can be overclocked the most or is the best value for money? AMD or INTEL.

BTW how much did you manage to overclock it by?
I didn't. With proper cooling, 3ghz+ should be do-able though. I wanted a CPU with VT tech for VMWare...so I forked out more for E6550. The E6550 doesn't do quite as well on O/C afaik.

Intel by far!
E2140 from 1.6Ghz to 3.0Ghz on AIR!! :D
Although they have stoped making em' so a E2160/80 2200 is still an option!

Eish!? I think 3.6Ghz is the limmit otherwise the PC will refuse to post :) wonder what his SuperPi times are :D

as far as i have read, the e2140 and e2160 - low price, but high potential

although i have a e2140, but due to having a k@k motherboard, i can't overclock mine :(

To be safe: A GA-P35-DS3L or Asus P5K and upwards will be able to take them to their limits.
Apparently the earlier chips like E2140 / 60 and specifically the E2160 cos of the higher multiplier, OC'd better than the E2180 / 20.

You also don't really want to have to max out the Vcore above 1.5v anyway, cos it gets too hot all round.

I also took my E2180 from 2.0 to 3.0 GHz, with only having to add .75 more Vcore. It's a comfortable 24/7 OC for me.

Offtopic: E6420: Overclocked from 2.0Ghz to 3.6GHhz Stable.
Current: Q6600: Overclocked from 2.4Ghz to 3.6GHhz Stable.
Running 24/7 at 3.2Ghz and 4Ghz if I push it.

All Core2-based CPUs are are reaching at least ~3,2 GHz.
So just buy the smallest CPU in a processor family.

Does memory affect how much the CPU can be overclocked or just the overall performance of the machine?
