Best price on custom spec PC

Henno - another suggestion. You're buying a machine you want to enjoy. Don't go and buy the whole thing one smack. Take your time, buy what you need now to get it running, and build onto it over time. I left my case for the second round and my monitors for the 3rd round.

My first buy was my Mobo, Ram, 1 Graphics card, PSU and CPU with DVD drives. I kept my original crappy AOPEN case. - Set me back about R13000 at the time.

Then a few months down the line i got myself the HAF932 (check out the new one HAF 922) and I got my second Graphics card off ebay for like R1000 (XFX 9800gt)

My monitors followed last 3x Sammy's for R5000 (was a special at Sahara :) )

That way you get to enjoy building and adding and upgrading your pc whenever money allows and you still get to enjoy the power of your pc.

Cool and practical idea, although in my case I've been given the go ahead by my wife :-) I'd rather just go through this once, and let it be done with.

40cm fan?! The whole side panel is a giant fan?! Is it quiet? The bigger the fan, the fewer the rpms needed to push the same amount of air, hence the less the noise?

Actually that 40cm does double the amount of air than the 25cm fan, bigger the fan less rpm less noise basically :).

I honestly wish i had waited for it instead of buying this hsf :(. This hsf has 3 20cm fans running at 700rpm, FFS pushes out next to no air dammit!!!!!!

Haha, that must be LOUD. :eek:

I'd want to see and more importantly hear that 40cm fan before I took it. This 25cm one is too loud for me. Coupled with the tiny 8cm one on the graphics card, it drives me nuts :(
 
Yup just hope you have aircon in the room for those 33 degree summer days :).

No look at the reviews you can tell by DB if it is loud i think the 40cm is 14db or something which is as good as silent, anything over 20 is audible.

Indeed. There are cheaper cases that are ugly but have good ventilation - looks are not everything, as you say.

Maybe it is the air rushing over the components that is making all the noise,then? :p
 
Nope your fan on your zerocool runs at 800rpm and 31db which is loud i know i used to have the zero cool.

From what I can see the Corsair actually delivers more power than the coolermaster PSU;)
 
Just to pick on you guys' brains once more.

When it comes to motherboards, I must say I'm very confused as to what I should be getting. It seems the one I've chosen didn't raise any particular concerns, however I'm wondering if there's not maybe something else out there.

The one I was looking at is: GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L Intel p43 chipset ATX ddr2 sata2

however I also noticed: Asus P5QL-E IP43 Motherboard w/A8 + LK + FWa + SATA2 RAID


When choosing a mobo what should I be looking for? From what I can see,

* RAM speed and total size (1066 and 16GB at max)
* PCI Express 2.0
* RAID? Is this a feature I'll need? Noticed the GIGABYTE model doesnt have it...
* Chipset? P43?

The ASUS Express Gate looks quite impressive. Not really sure if I'd be turning off the PC, however if I do, this will come in handy.

The GIGABYTE seems to have nice interface for over clocking should I ever decide to go that route.

Bear in mind, the idea with this rig is that it should last me a lifetime :-). Ideally I'd want a system that is to some extent future proof.
