The IC in clearwater only had the 1TB models in stock, and they were all marked CUH1216B on the box, so new model then.

True true, however I haven't read about runaway temp problems vs the noise issue. That being said, I hope it doesn't melt itself!!! ;P

I wonder if the fan is retro-fittable to the older model or if it's software controlled somehow.
I would have mine running hotter quite happily if it would just shut up.

Why does it matter? It's not like it's affecting the performance.
"Hotter" in this case is 2-3 degrees from what I remember, hardly an issue.

I know plenty of people who have the loud version by model number, but theirs is comparatively quiet to mine.
Even after replacing the thermal paste on mine I'll swop it out for a new model in a heart beat.
I'm almost in the same boat. I just constantly have to remind myself that I have played all the games in the bundle, and the only PS4 game I want to play is Bloodborne. And I don't want to buy rocksmith for an old console.
Would they not be able to offer you alternate games? Maybe email [email protected] and ask them. They are usually very helpful.
