Best router for streaming Netflix

I recently bought a 55 inch smart tv, but The quality drops quite badly frequently while streaming netflix or youtube.

I have a 4 meg telkom line with axxess as service provider. I have a normal Asus n14u router. Will it help in any way to get a vdsl router on the same 4meg line (max for my home). Will this improve the stability?

does your wifi drop or router switch off?
that's a pretty decent router you have so not sure why you think that is the issue

Which area are you in? Changing the router won't help if your speed is slow. ADSL in our area also only supports "up to" 4mb so we went with a WISP that could give us better speeds.

It's likely your shtty internet not the router

Very much doubt this will improve tangibly by spending money on a router.

I had similar issue with 4mb line , first tested line by temporary moving router closer to TV, ended up buying a 2nd 5ghz access point which is very close ,just for streaming

So all other devices are using 2.4 GHz and streaming using 5 Ghz

Get wifi analyser and check if the channel your router on is congested and change to an uncongested channel

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It is just frustrating as I get good HD quality and then it goes to crap for a while.

How much extra bandwidth is required with the larger screen, as these quality drops were not visible with the smaller TV? What also is interesting, is that it does not seem to make a difference whether I use a LAN cable to the TV or Wifi connection, still experience the quality drops.

I have moved the Router closer to the TV, using a longer phone cable to the Router ADSL port, so I will try moving the router back, closer to the wall access point.

I am in Secunda, so no hope of having a faster line or fibre soon.

If you still see the quality drop with a Ethernet cable it's your ISP, not your router.

The thing is there are probably many devices , like your smartphones etc contending for that bandwidth . So if you can get more than 4 Mbps will be more beneficial.

Personally I'd ditch the "smart" aspect of the TV and get a box. Devices like Rokus seem to buffer better.

Thanks

Will also try using Netflix on Apple tv, as this is what I used with the old TV. The PS4 also had quality issues with Netflix though.

Did a line test through axxess, and they report a download speed of 5120 kbps (on a 4 meg line?), with upload of 512kb. Surely this should be sufficient to stream HD on a 55 inch tv?

Will try with my Apple tv, but Netflix through the PS4 did not improve quality.

Go capped. Stay away from uncapped packages.
Increase line speed although 4mbps should suffice.
Deter from using WIFI.
Get a fixed line connected to your TV. Fixed line simply superior to WIFI aspect on smart tv's. The smart aspect in my opinion is a gimmick not worth investing in unless you go for a very expensive up to date rig. BUT a cheaper UHD tv not supporting smart with a pc or an Android device connected to it works wonders. Better in my opinion.
If possible at all go for a PC connected via HDMI or and android box. Get an air mouse and enjoy

Start of by going to http://www.speedtest.net , and check the speed you getting. You might be paying for a 4mb line , but your exchange could be congested so you not getting that speed

Could be the TV , what make is it? I have no problems with my Samsung smart TV playing HD netflix (also on 4mbps).
