Best streaming box

Look - you can tell yourself whatever you need to make you feel better, but R5,000+ is a lot of money for a system on an old UI ; that can't do YouTube HDR and can't support future codecs. Already, tons of content is available in AV1 on both Netflix and YouTube.

Whether you choose to overlook the issues and justify your purchase is your own thing, but I won't be buying something as limited for so much money .
Paid 3200 for my shield pro; besides I wasn't looking for the second coming at that time just a decent box which it is.

I think you're all misunderstanding.

I'm not saying it's a bad box at all. A few years back, I'd have got it a heartbeat as well. But the box is showing its age with the limitations and I'm hoping there'll be an update.

Of all the limitations, YouTube lack of codecs (AV1 & VP9.2) is - to me - an issue. I watch a fair amount of YouTube and I'm used to getting a proper experience.

Would l pay 4 x the price of my RealMe to limit my YouTube experience & go back to a more basic GUI, just to tell everyone I have a Shield? Probably not

I recently got and would heartily recommend the Amazon Fire Stick 4k max. A British account and a smart dns and there is so much free content on the UK catch ups and YouTube you could easily go without a paid streaming service for years.

With my 500/250 fibre we often watch BBC and ITV live even. Well worth the time taken to set it up imo.

Plot twist: for my office room I'll probably get one of these to just do basic streaming while I work

or the Mi.

I really do not have a use for youtube in hdr

Thought you'd say that ;)

I get that often from iPhone users when they realize they have a limitation ; and then they prioritize what they can do.

Anyway, the point is that IMO it's not the best streaming box and won't suit everyone

Of course, but what content do you consume that is hdr on youtube. I am really interested - that's all.

The obsession of non iPhone users with iPhones is remarkable. And so all consuming it even gets cited as a reason for your choice of tv box.

I’d hazard a guess that the best streaming box is the one that you have, huh?

Oh, and I have an iPhone and I can stream YouTube in HDR, but if I was adopting your approach I’d say who watches YouTube on a tv? Because I don’t no one does.

Wait - you can't see any similarity ?
Buying an expensive unit and not having x, y, z - but then then people saying they don't x, y or z ?

No.

What are you talking about ?
What upset you ?
I said it can't do certain things - was that wrong to disagree ?

:(

Give him 20 minutes. He’s trawling YouTube looking for HDR content that he pretends he watches all the time.

Nah.

So my YouTube has a search at the top, so I really just search videos?

If I want to watch a product review / history / top news / visiting a country / crime etc - I type it in the search bar. It's a mix of resolution / frame rate / dynamic range

I don’t x y z and I have the capability. WTF does it have to do with owning an iPhone?

Your earlier comment about owning a shield just so you can say you own a shield tells anyone all they need to know about your obsession with others choices of kit compared to your own. What is it with you Android users and the seethe for Apple that it creeps into everything?

Sure. We all know how to watch YouTube. But what content do you specifically watch in HDR that it’s a must have on your streaming box?

I'm saying the thinking is the same ?
Why are you so hurt ?
What went wrong in your life that you get triggered so easily?

I'm not sure what the issues is ?
Have you followed the thread ?
It's about the best steaming box ?

I'm not. your obsession with iPhone users brought me into this and I just like to prove you wrong. As I've done again.

What went wrong in your life that you get triggered so easily?

I am having a super life thanks. I think the difference is I don't have an inferiority complex based on tech choices and don't feel the need to explain why my stuff is better than yours even though it cost less.

And your one is the best huh?Becasue the other ones don't have YouTube in HDR which you apparently don't even need

I don't think you do ?

I watch old music videos and stand up. That's about it. For the rest I have Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+ and the UK catch ups all in glorious 4k on my 4k QLED tv, in HDR, UHD whatever. It's great. My kids watch a lot of YouTube though. Nothing on it for me, must be because I use an iPhone huh?

Oh, and I don't think you do watch it either. You have failed to come up with a single show you watch in HDR. But you got HDR huh, wow, great, just like your Android. Features and functions you just don't use. But you got em though.

Firstly, you've never done it .

Secondly, you can't see the similarity ? Really ?
That's all I'm pointing out ?

You're on a tech forum, and in a thread asking opinions about what the best streaming boxes are the best ?
In other words, why one should consider/not consider ?
Again, I'm battling to see the issue ?
Do you not like the fact that whatever you chose may not be the best in someone eyes?

And your one is the best huh?

I'm pretty good at saying :
  • Product A does A, B, and C
  • Product B does B, C and D
  • Product B can't do any
  • Product D does them all
You're taking offense and making excuses for something that can't be done - which is kind of odd ?

YouTube in HDR which you apparently don't even need

You need to understand how YouTube works

YouTube is a free video sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos. You can even create and upload your own videos to share with others. Originally created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month.

If you've ever watched a video online, there's a good chance it was a YouTube video. For example, almost all of the video tutorials on our website are actually YouTube videos!
