Best streaming box

The obsession of non iPhone users with iPhones is remarkable. And so all consuming it even gets cited as a reason for your choice of tv box.

I’d hazard a guess that the best streaming box is the one that you have, huh?

Oh, and I have an iPhone and I can stream YouTube in HDR, but if I was adopting your approach I’d say who watches YouTube on a tv? Because I don’t no one does.

I do in fact only consume it on a TV, but I also don’t see the need for HDR on YouTube.

I’m not watching TV shows or Movies on the thing.

Besides, the new Apple TV does support it.

I think you're all misunderstanding.

I'm not saying it's a bad box at all. A few years back, I'd have got it a heartbeat as well. But the box is showing its age with the limitations and I'm hoping there'll be an update.

Of all the limitations, YouTube lack of codecs (AV1 & VP9.2) is - to me - an issue. I watch a fair amount of YouTube and I'm used to getting a proper experience.

Would l pay 4 x the price of my RealMe to limit my YouTube experience & go back to a more basic GUI, just to tell everyone I have a Shield? Probably not
The GUI on the Shield is identical to that on the Mi Stick. Nothing basic about both.

Firstly, you've never done it .

You said iPhone users compromise and didn't believe HDV didn't watch much YouTube because he doesn't have HDR. Just so patronising it's ridiculous. So I stepped in to say that I have an iPhone and YouTube in HDR , but I don't use it. This blows your silly little argument out of the water. Clearly.

Secondly, you can't see the similarity ? Really ?
That's all I'm pointing out ?

No, I can't. It's a stupid assumption based on your prejudices.

You're on a tech forum, and in a thread asking opinions about what the best streaming boxes are the best ?
In other words, why one should consider/not consider ?
Again, I'm battling to see the issue ?
Do you not like the fact that whatever you chose may not be the best in someone eyes?

That's the whole point. He made a choice, you belittled his choice and said he's compromising because he has an iPhone. I mean, really dude. This is playground nonsense.

I'm pretty good at saying :
  • Product A does A, B, and C
  • Product B does B, C and D
  • Product B can't do any
  • Product D does them all
You're taking offense and making excuses for something that can't be done - which is kind of odd

Offence?

You need to understand how YouTube works

YouTube is a free video sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos. You can even create and upload your own videos to share with others. Originally created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month.

If you've ever watched a video online, there's a good chance it was a YouTube video. For example, almost all of the video tutorials on our website are actually YouTube videos!

Why are you shifting the goalposts on a very simple question? What content do you watch in HDR?

Hey, me too. Are you sure you have an iPhone? I'm beginning to think my iPhone might be fake.

Doesn’t really matter since I don’t consume any media content on my iPhone other than Music really.

At most I use my phone to search for stuff and then I send it to my TV.

I don't see an issue with what I'm saying that triggers all you users .

Is it because someone pointed out limitations and that goes against what you've always believed ?

But also just to be clear.

Sorry, seems Tapatalk destroys it. Why the hell can’t it just support video.

Anyway, point is the iPhone does HDR just fine on phones that actually have HDR.

I can dumb it down - but I'm even sure I can hit your level of understanding :

You'll value what you have ; and dismiss everything you don't

What limitations?

I’ve just shown you the iPhone supports HDR which is where you somehow brought people not caring for HDR into the mix.

That being said it’s an utterly pointless and ridiculous feature to have on a phone in the first place.

My specific issue is you keep going on about inferior GUI when the 2 that you are comparing have the same GUI - Shield and Mi Stick.

What limitations?

The limitations of the Shield - not the iPhone.

I said the Shield needs an update as :
  • It doesn't do Google TV
  • It doesn't do AV1
  • It doesn't do YouTube HDR
And to me, it wouldn't be considered the best streaming box.

That's where everything exploded .... I , um, disagreed

For the 4th time, I'm not comparing those two .

I prefer the features and look of the latest GUI

But where the hell did iPhone people come into it?

And yes I fully agree, the best streaming box is the new Apple TV.

Unless you wanted to do host some personal content, because then Dolby Atmos passthrough is a problem with things like Plex etc.

In which case use an Xbox and get a remote and job done.

But where the hell did iPhone people come into it?

I said the thinking was the same - in other words, I don't have the feature ... so it's not important yet
And yes I fully agree, the best streaming box is the new Apple TV

I agree - but even that, I feel needs a small update .

I'm not 100% on the current status, but at one point didn't do YouTube UHD, then battled with 60fps - and I understand the SDR/HDR process si not fully automatic as yet ? You manually flip it ? AV1 would be a bonus as well

But, it's close ...
