Hi guys I'm looking to upgrade to an uncapped acount but I am lost at what isp to choose. Im looking for a 384kbps acount my buget is R400. I am planing to use 40-60 gigs and also a little online gaming. I am going to be using torrents quite a bit. So which isp meets my critera? Thanks.

I'd suggest, from personal experience, that you go for Openweb's 384 Gold.
Benefits: less shaping, better speeds, amazing support, and a lower contention ratio (like less traffic on the highway so you can have more fun).

www.openweb.co.za

Openweb Gold is undoubtedly the answer to your question, but there are certain things you should bear in mind.

I understand you want to use 40-60GB per month, whether you'll achieve that depends on how you "treat" your Uncapped account.

If you sign up for the account, and start downloading 24/7 from day 1, (your connection) is gonna get punished eventually.

However, if you plan on spreading those 40-60GB's over the entire month, you won't (or at least shouldn't)
have any problems.

Does this account for an uncapped unshaped account as well?

It accounts for any uncapped account in existence in South Africa,
it's just the degree that varies.

Not so with the Gold accounts.

So even if you pay a ridiculous amount via uncapped unshaped account they will still throttle you?

Mweb or openweb those seem like the best isp so far which one is better for downloading

This is incorrect. Gold doesn't care about your usage.

updates in games are an issue these day's. Ranging anything from 500mb to 8.5GIG patch :( my capped account can't handle this...

Let's say you go for an Uncapped business 384K account for around R899 pm.
Since you're paying them more, they'll be far more lenient and you'll have higher
priority during peak times.

But the bottom line is, every Uncapped account in South Africa is subject to a
Fair Use Policy/Acceptable Use Policy. Which means if you download 24/7, they'll
eventually either throttle you, or if not, simply terminate your account.

With regard to account termination, they'll most likely give you fair warning first.

Ag this sucks - basically Uncapped or unshaped accounts means S@#$ these days...

No internet freedom :(

Questions for MWEB Guy

Good morning Cryax, you could sign up for the MWEB 7 day trial account. If you would like this, please inbox me your contact details and I will have someone contact you.

Now that we have MWEB Guy's attention, I have a few questions:

1. You state that you never throttle your uncapped accounts, if this is the case, how do you control 24/7 downloaders?

2. If you don't throttle your users why don't they achieve the full line speed 24/7?

3. Do you in any way deprioritise "heavy downloaders"?

4. In the past you have terminated many Uncapped Accounts as a result of "abuse", what are the circumstances behind account termination?

5. What's the difference between "shaping" and "throttling"?

6. Do you "shape" your Uncapped accounts?

7. Final question: If a client's account gets terminated by you, would the client still have to adhere your 30 day cancellation notice, and pay for the following month, even though the service was terminated with immediate effect?

Thanks.

1. they ban you from the network, never happended to 384 user or 1mb user so far, seen 384 user do 80gb+ monthly

2. they shape thats why you dont get full speeds, there is way around it ofcourse,( by that means, you can maybe be shaped downloading from rapidshare, but add another download from another site and then max your line, as shaping is per connection)

3. they dont shape per user, shape on network load.

4. normally 4mb user doing 500gb or so, and downloading during day or using a encryption type to unshape there downloads.

5.shaping p2p , filesharing etc is at bottom of the q goes the slowest, while http , email etc is top, throttling is where they make your whole connection slow, email also.

6, they do shape it.

7. now they cancel it the same month i heard.

I doubt mweb guy is going to answer it, why i did answer it , should be about correct.
