Best uncapped WiMax solution?

I am a Screamer user and play WOW and do a lot of downloading and when I have had a latency issue they were quick to respond. Never had shaping or "fair use" problems.

Just checked out the Amobia web site and it is a WiFi not WiMAX network operator.

My experience is quite opposite, their current upstream has usually been problematic, even this week its very bad, I cant play WoW. I hope they do something about it soon.

I'm in a similar situation, lines stolen twice in a span of 2 months. Doubt Telkom will replace again so soon. Although ADSL (when lines are there :) ) remains the best in terms of latency & speed, I am also forced to look at alternatives (WiMax, WiFi). I need an uncapped solution, saw some packages at Amobia, their speed (3Mbps) is in theory the closest I would get to my 4Mbps ADSL line.

Are there others to look at that offer some decent speeds and uncapped solutions?

I am in the Boksburg (Everleigh) area.

Hi,

I am moving to Hatfield, Pretoria next month and wanted to find a cost effective wireless uncapped solution. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Sadly as far as i can see pretoria dont have so many options as the cost. I was with screamer and may i say happy with them for most days. now i moved and even thow they didnt tested every where i would love to have some options if not screamer uncaped then what is available in that price range and speed? O btw im in Pretoria north

Just heard the ppl doing instalations for screamer in tech i think is almost done with a new wisp. They say there pricing will be about the same as screamer and so the packages. Well guess we will have to wait and see. Sould be fully running the end of Jan. Can anyone give more info on this?

have had a few people on screamer and they seem to be happy. I use telkom's wimax at my flat and it works like a charm and I play alot of warcraft 3 online

I ordered wimax today. Do I use another service provider or how does it work? Are there specific packages for this and do I need a Wimax router or something?

Who did you order it from?

So, telkom wimax, can I get any ISP and do I need a special router?

Yes, you can get any ISP and you don't need a router, but then you will have to create PPPoE connections on your pc.

That's okay, the isp should help me do that :D

I've had WiMax for over a year now.

WiMax can outperform ADSL any day of the week as long as you've got a good ISP and clear LOS and good signal.

I switched ISP's a few months ago, my previous ISP gave me ALLOT of ****, internet suddenly going down etc.

I'm with a local (Limpopo) company now (PC Wireless) and I've had no problems whatsoever, I get what I pay for.

Speedtest.net results are what can be expected. 0.51Mbps download, (My upload just sucks) 0.12Mbps Upload. Ping to JHB = 40-50ms and to CT = 60ms.

Here is an example of my connection (Note I am torrenting atm thats why my PING is sky high)

Your upload does seem a bit low, but are you using a broadband router or did you create PPPoE connections in windows?

It's a local ISP thats doing really well in Limpopo, I just have a network cable coming from the Antenna (3 meters in the air) that plugs straight into my PC.

I only use a router for when I want to connect my Xbox for some XBL.

My package comes with a upload speed of 128Kbps I think.

Its stable so I've got no problem with online gaming (Local and international), my torrents just take forever to upload.

I'll upgrade to the 1Mbps package when I have extra cash lying around (Upload speed = 200-300kbps).
