Hi all,

I'm trying to cut down on subscription services costs and would like to get some opinions on what service or combo will be the best value for money in terms of movies and series?

Option 1: Netflix 4K at R199.

Option 2: Showmax and Disney at R218 for both.

Option 3: Netflix 4K and Disney at R318.

Option 4: Showmax Pro (I currently have this just for the FIFA WC) and Disney at R418 for both).

Prime isn't really an option for me. I've tried it and I don't find the catalogue interesting.

I do watch the Premier league hence Showmax Pro might be a good option, but it's not a deal breaker.

Would love to know your thoughts on this or any other suggestions. Thanks!

Out of those I'd probably go Netflix (the R159 one), Showmax (for the HBO), and maybe even include Disney, though I don't know how their catalogue stacks up against the US one.

I pay R159 for Netflix, R250'ish for Hulu/Disney, and R25 for a smart DNS which also gives me access to UK broadcast TV like BBC.

Get Showmax and disney for a few months. Then stop it and get Netflix for a few months. Rinse repeat
I like this idea.

Would the R200 extra for the sport on Showmax be worth it at all? From what I can see they mainly have football and other sports which aren't that popular such as swimming, etc. No Rugby or Cricket sadly. :(

How did you manage to sign up for Hulu? Do you need a US credit card?

If you can - I find it easier to get some subscriptions on a longer term. Makes it easier to pay for the few every month. I have quite a number of subscriptions but some are for a full year meaning I dont need to worry about them for 365 days.

Got Disney when it came out so its sorted for the whole year. Showmax Promo that got me the package for half price. Made sense to pay for a full year. And then I only worry about netflix and amazon prime every month.
Maybe that kind of plan could work for you. Reduce subscriptions by paying some for a longer period on the onset.

Currently running Windscribe ControlD, for BBC iPlayer and ITV. works good, Windscribe VPN kills the speed but works.
Ok? Thanks for sharing. I'm perfectly happy with SmartDNSProxy and their multi region support.

TBH the phrase "ControlD" has become as nauseating as any reference to a Phillips Airfryer, thanks to the boy wonder.

Plex + either a free PlexShare or subscribe for $5-$7pm.
Every movie, TV show you could ever possibly watch, dont even have to host your own plex server.

It works, is multi-region as well, you set it up for whatever services, you are interested in. Wanna try Peacock, before the free period ends .

No thanks. Alldebrid / real debrid is cheaper.
And the Quality? Last time I checked it out around 2019, if was all low quality stuff meant for tablet sized viewing.
That and whenever you tried to view from Server 1,2,3 it would buffer.

Currently? SmartDNS Proxy because they had a great special on at the time.

FWIW they're basically identical to Getflix - same company.
So you set this up within the router or does it need to be set up on the device itself?
