Best VoIP service?

Whatever you do, stay away from JNZ. Pathetic serfvice. Compelley inept (it's like they have totoal noobs in their tech dept). Did nothing but hurt us working with JNZ.
 
Yes, FreshPhone works just fine, been using them for some years now.

FreshPhone bills me much cheaper for some numbers in ZA compared to int VOIP providers such as [Skype/ Microsoft, Google or other int VOIP.].

"Some numbers" is rather complex to present here.
Heaven knows why ZA telephony is morphing into this circus as described in post here.

You should be able to see all the call rates on FreshPHONE calling rate sheet? I think there’s one on the website, could be international though.

I’m fairly certain that they charge a flat rate for local destinations like 021/011 etc?
 
If this will help others.

1. Does FreshFone work?
Yes, perfectly fine, no matter where you are in world.
I use from UK for 2+ years. {VOX voip as example does not work from UK}

2. Cost per month so you can use this.
Zero, it is free.
You buy prepaid data for calls you will make, see point 3 below.

3. Cost when you call out.

4. Cost when persons call you.
You get a 087x number for free.
You can port old geo numbers {say old Telkom} to FreshPhone @+- ZAR140. Not sure what it will cost calling party when ringin you on such ported number.
I do not want to be called so this is good. If persons want to ring you it will be costly.

5. What is the quality like?
Used voip for +- 15 years.
Skype is best of any voip ever used.
FreshPhone not as good as main voip service by UK voip provider.
FreshPhone is fine, not brilliant but fine for normal use.
 
Been with Voys. Not the cheapest, but great support, app is good, and am really happy.

Guys, I pay R171 pm for Voip, I can call uncapped, my service fee stays the same @ R171 pm nothing more.

I tried for 6 months to get Freshphone (Euphoria) to work - sometimes no incoming calls; sometimes no outgoing calls; most of the time nothing. (Except spam calls and wrong numbers).

Fired them and ported landline numbers to Axxess.
Minimum R50 airtime / line per month but it accumulates and very happy with the service.
Axxess also allows more than one connection / device on the same number which Freshphone doesn’t

Anyone tried Afrihost's product? I'm thinking of getting a VOIP phone like an old school corded one for my desk.
 
Do not use this provider, they sell scam/ fraud numbers.
A massive task ahead for us all to halt the fraud wrt to VOIP in ZA.

Choose a voip company marked as green.
The red ones will sell you a voip number, anyone calling you will pay at least 25% more than what they think they will pay, thus you bought yourself a premium number.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree with you a little here. While your definition is “technically correct” you also have to be careful how you throw the scam/fraudulent statement around.

I’m sure you understand that for this country to grow we need competition, telkom being the largest teleco in this country, they own the most infrastructure etc how ever it’s crap and it’s falling apart. So now there’s competition in the telecoms market but the issue is that if you are calling from telkom to a FreshPHONE number for example, the route is obviously no longer on net, the call has to transit from telkom to another carrier. Maybe it’s via a direct interconnect, maybe it’s via another carrier, there’s transit and interconnect fees which apply to these calls. This is what drives the price up.

It’s not a super premium, it’s a few cents per min. This will apply to calls in from all networks. There’s always some sort of transit fee. The reason telkom was/is cheaper for telkom to telkom calls is because it’s on net, there’s no need for external transit. But the same could be said for most voip providers if you can voip to voip on net it’s usually free.

So I’m not 100% sure why you are so badly trying to make every voip provider out there look bad. It’s not really their fault people have had enough of telkom and are porting away. It’s also not the voip providers fault the inbound call cost is higher, it’s not like they get to set the transit rates. They don’t get a say at all about inbound call costs.
 
For a replacement for family landline (and maybe some WFH calls), in what order would you rank the following providers and why (weighing up call quality, service and costs)?

Abacus Telecom
Websquad
Vox

You should order a line with switchtel.co.za. {It will cost +- R50/m}
I tested various za VOIP providers. No relation to any companies suggested.

This forum removed a post that took me many hours to prepare in which the issues were explained.

Since this removal the case explained had been filed with ICASA. Expect nothing form this.
 
Im happy with freshphone r200 last us 6 months
Why do i need to pay monthly fee .

Not my problem if the one calling me need to pay more , most of it is in any case spam calls.
