Hi all

I've taken the self installation option and according to Telkom I can now go ahead and install! :p

Obviously I do not want to enter into a 2 year contract, so your recommendations regarding the cheapest wireless router will be appreciated.

So far I've found a Linksys wireless for R595...

Thanks in advance

Linksys WRT54GL is the best one i can find in that price range. The cool think about it is you can "format" it, and install something like dd-wrt which enhances it something silly.

You should get the new wifi modem for FREE with the self install option. Phone them and tell them you want the modem. They will try make you sign the contract, refuse... they will still give you the modem.

Thanks JayT. Must I first phone or just go to a Telkom outlet?

go to one of the outlets and ask them about it. If you havent activated the adsl service, you should still qualify.

im using a netgear dg834g and iv been through all of them.. get the netgear!! super routers just keep working:D

Billion 7300G! Also did the SIO with Telkom. Very easy to install. I guess most of the adsl modem/routers are good :)

Hey terencevs, is there still a shortage?

No shortage, suppliers got stock this morning, but let me tell you that the Billions are selling so fast.

Why waste money on buying a router/modem when you get one free. The new ones arent bad. They have all the security options and actually work pretty well

Yes but that is only a wireless broadband access point router. You still need an ADSL modem/router to connect to it.... So it will cost you about R800-R900 in the end anyway....

Just to let you know...I'm up and running with a...wait for it...Telkom wifi router. Saved R800 by taking this option. No strings attached;)
