Better ADSL pricing promised through IPINX

Well it sounds like great news, but we've heard enough empty promises about lower prices. But I keep hoping.

You may want to check MyBroadband tommorow - the IPINX service is tarting to have an effect already ;)

can someone explain the difference between JINX and IPINX

Sounds to me like IPINX has bulk IP Connect or IP Stream services from Telkom, and is reselling them at a decent price. The bigger you are, the cheaper your IPConnect service is. If IPINX will then resell it in smaller chunks, without adding a prohibitive markup, then everyone wins, except Telkom.

The fact that they are also offering peering is secondary to the IP Connect service, to my understanding, although still beneficial.

Seems like everyone is benefiting from lower prices except Neotel consumer clients.:(

Yup. I have to confess, I was tempted to switch to Neotel when they first started their offerings, but R80/GB these days is just silly money, even if they don't have additional data line charges.

Now, I can't see any possible reason to use them . . . other than that they are not Telkom.

Unfortunate Typo RPM, we already know that Internet Access is Run by Tarts and Pimps, that just confirms it :)

lower ADSL wholesale costs promised

Wholesale price doesn't interest me, last time I looked the mean wholesale price of bandwidth fell substantially yet the average retail price of bandwidth only fell marginally.

The newly formed company will pass the benefits of wholesale carrier and access neutral connectivity to smaller providers enabling them to offer services that are more advanced than the current reseller models available.

There's that 'passing the benefit' thingy again, all I see is one more guy upstream slurping up the cost savings that I should be getting.

I really understand the need for something like this, peering etc. I also acknowledge some ISP's are pushing the envelope in terms of offering 'more affordable' bandwidth.
I just fail to get excited at the words 'promise', 'passing benefit' etc. when it comes to bandwidth prices.
