Better broadband urgently needed

The best part is where they say we might have it at 2014!? Wtf does it really take that long to dig a hole with a jack hammer? NO, how do I know this? Well I worked in a build company a while back. They say it 80% of the cost hmmmm BS BS! I SEE THESE GUYS, THEY DIG WITH SHOVELS?? You can get one guy for R70 a day and lend a jack hammer for R18 a day. Hmmm and he can dig a 1m trench 1m long faster than you think. Jack hammers cut like a knife cuts butter, trust me I used them. Now that ticks me off.
 
Think of it this way. We have been moving into the right direction FAST lately. It is only a matter of (not so much) time. I really think that we will have very cheap bandwidth by 2013 when most of the new undersea cables have settled.

Even if bandwidth does not become cheaper, I bet we will see huge increases in caps. If I pay the odd R70 per gig, and I suddenly get offered 5 gigs for R70, I would be happy.

Hopefully we will rank higher then.
 
yet agin...another person willing to accept a capped line.....cough..........right....lets get this 1 thing clear.......other countries have UNCAPPED lines.....so why the hell would you accept 5GB for R70.......you should say that you wont accept anything below R400 for a 4MB uncapped line.........at the very least.

2nd thing...things arent moving fast because of the SA government....it's because of seacom landing recently, geez.....if seacom didnt land this month do you honestly think the government would be even blinking at broadband???????? they are only saying this now to make themselves look good, cuz they know all the lines will be landing within the next 2 years.....but wait,......there's more......you know what the funny part will be.......just imagine if ANC does not win next election, therefore which ever party wins will look good cuz pricings will drop once all the cables have settled in lol.

Breaking news this, the thought has never crossed my mind or anyone's else. Let the rest of the countries them laugh at us, and maybe we'll actually see something happening.
 
has this group only just figured this out, or have they been saying the same thing since 1998?

Thats the picture, wake up call????? there won't really be one until we force them to have one, i have no idea what the license for the SNO or that for telkom reads but I am sure servicing consumers is definitely one of the clauses, however Nevertel is not giving consumers cheaper stuff as they focus on corporates and definitely not servicing enough consumers, shouldn't there be some kind of "spank in the bottom" for neotel by now? and telkom for heaven's sake, on that same scale they should be hanged up side down and whipped till they can't move.

I think government is already very focussed on broadband - it is where they make a lot of money from via their Telkom interest.
 
Politics and greed are the still the first orders of the day. The Mbeki era never understood the importance of Broadband on an economy, and my guess is that the current presidential era also don't understand the importance.

Things will change when someone in power "UNDERSTANDS" the importance of broadband and the negative impacts posed by lack of access. For now, all they know is that broadband allows you to watch videos on youtube, send and recieve email and most importantly, social networking like facebook. Till their perception changes and they are exposed to the real benefits they just wont understand like the rest of us.
