Yes I apologize , I shouldn't complain about an unstable 384kbps line .

3700 MSAN's? with 370-600 connections? By 2015?

Eish...

lets be conservative for a second -
370*3700 = 1,369,000
600*3700 = 2,220,000

So, If I understand this correctly, Telkom's growth plans are to increase their subscriber base by -100%? Or are these MSAN's only for DSL (hence turning the analog line into digital)?

even then it seems far too few for the amount of people.

or am I just completely missing the plot?
 
And the smaller town will most likely get left behind.

370-600 connections? Why not 672 or 704?

Current ADSL subscribers are around 850 000.

Im on 384 uncapped and for some reason I'm downloading at 55kb/s for the last few. Im guessing my line speed has been increased already, and its my account holding back the speeds. I doubt my ISP is going to bump me up to 1mb though.

Those are just the street cabinets the exchanges will also we upgraded
 
Think i am one lucky guy.

I live in a small town called stilfontein in the north west and my exchange say its 4mb enabled but i am on 10mb currently.
Seems a lot of bitching and moaning maybe works :D

Mainly because you are on the fibre highway (Potch-Klerksdorp) and there's probably a Metro Ethernet POP and IMAX unit close by to service the mines. Nice!

Actually, I think you will find we are moving backwards.
Telkom is losing fixed line subscribers fast.
And we are lagging further and further behind the rest of the world in terms of broadband standards... so yeah... moving... but moving backwards.
There has been no significant progress on the ADSL front for years now.
Subscribers are not seeing any improvements, if anything we are seeing a more and more degraded network.

This should be good news for other types of internet as well, no?
I'm on WiFi (Telkom doesn't want my money. read: installation in complex), but an upgrade to the local exchange should allow my WISP to offer a 10Mbit/s connection. Or is there some kind of speed restriction on WiFi?

[sorry for the slightly OT post, but I need something to possibly get excited about today :) ]

Tokai also has that box, but I didn't hear anything about that area being upgraded. The Telkom techies have been practically camped out there for the last few weeks wiring and talking... I wonder if it is an MSAN. I'll take a picture if I can.
