With the trend that more and more people are starting to make use of online storage services to sync data between devices is there chance telecom operators will increase the upload speed on ADSL lines?

ps. I do not refer to VDSL, Fibre or mobile solutions.

No telkom will not allow higher upload speeds, the upload speeds was gimped from the start because they didnt want the ADSL market diluting their leased line market share. So they gimped the upload so that you are not able to run servers from your home or replace a leased line that can go into over R100 000 month for rental.

Its never going to happen, once telkom's greed stops then maybe it will change and I dont see that happening in our lifetime.

On the flip side increasing the upload speed will help start ups and SME's it will boost the SA economy but hey its owned by the ANC they want maximum profit.

ADSL = Asymmetric digital subscriber line
Meaning the upload and downloading speed is not the same. No one gimped anything. If you want higher upload speeds you will have to look at other technologies.

+1

You need fiber. 3G will also upload at better speeds if the signal is good. You have no choice on that one, Adsl is just what it is right now. For personal needs i find the upload speeds available to us as home consumers adequate, only when you start thinking about serious business operations will the upload speed need some consideration

Then go for HDSL or SHDSL ...

Thanx for the replies, I thought it was wishful thinking when I started the thread. It would have been nice to upload at 1Mbps on a standard ADSL line.
Currently I'm using Telkom Mobile if I need to upload large files at speeds of 1 to 2Mbps.

Is the upload on 10/20/40Mbps not 1Mbps?

The 1 to 2Mbps upload speed is via my Telkom Mobile dongle which is capable of 21Mbps. Like everybody else my fixed ADSL line max at 52Kbps for uploads.

1-4/0.5
10/1
20/2
40/4

If you sync at 20Mbs on ADSL, you will only get 1Mbs up. On VDSL you can get up to 4Mbs up IIRC.

I am aware of the upload limitations hence my question if their was any chance of this changing.

Seriously doubt it.

That is not good.
My options are thus limited to the 20Mbps line if I want at least 1Mbps up speed? Will I be able to upgrade to that package if you consider the following?

1. According to the Telkom broadband availability tool my exchange only support a rate of 4Mbps whereas my router sync at a much higher speed.
